It checked out. Everything looked great. BUT no air and a tiny bit of frame rust. Non sail cloth top no center consol. Mismatched spare.

The wife still loved it.

I did the dance with the stealership and they wouldn't budge on the price.

They came down $500 and made me joke offer on her trade in.

I know it's that time of the year jeeps sell, I feel bad for the one who buys it.

Was I too cheap?

I was pushing for $11k, would have bought at 11750, tops with a honest offer for her 2001 nissan altima for trade, which they offered $500. High miles but well kept with records and I could sell in my area for $1500 over night. More if I waited.

Not a terrible price with those miles, but I'm sure you can find a better Jeep for less. They list it as a SE with a 4.0, but I thought those only came with 4 bangers.

Wow I must be crazy...I wouldn't take less than 10K for my 04 TJ 150K+ miles, no spare showing, and very few "mods" that most people would want.

I would have had a hard time saying no...unless it is truly orange? Now RED no question!!

I paid 15k for my lj 2 yrs ago. Walk, very fast, in the other direction and wait for him to call you. He's got ten days to sell it before having to insure it and loss on a commission check. If he does sell it over night, good for him, if not (which is more likely) then it will be good for you. Believe no vague car dealer threats.

Yeah they seem to have no idea what it is. It also says L6 instead of I6 and the SE models were 4cyl. Pisses me off when dealers won't do their homework. I had an owner of a 4x4 shop I was scouting tell me his 99 TJ had the factory V6.

Im a stickler when come to price! You need to disclose more detail on price and trade for your car. I see 2005 4.0L with 25,000 miles, correct for $11,500 bucks. Then you want to trade in your car (trade money). Thats a great price, however we need to know where the jeep was driven (ie North). Cause if you see rust, most likely there is more rust than you realize. But overall its not a bad price.

KBB says its about $17K for it, so $11.7K sounds fair. But compare it to what else is available/priced in your area.

Who in their right mind trades a vehicle in to a dealer? You get pennies on the dollar compared to private sale.

I've always sold my cars privately then paid cash for the new one, but nowadays with all the scams and carjacking I'm in a quandry about what to do in my next car trade. That is unless I stick my 9mm auto in the back of my belt when I go for a test ride with the prospective buyer.

if you scroll down on the ad, it says its the 2.5 L 4 cyl engine and that its a manual transmission. In the pics it is clearly an automatic.

Huh? Very clearly says 4.0 L6. No where do I see 2.5. Also the ad I'm looking at says 4 sp automatic. I am lookin on my cell phone, maybe the mobile version of the page comes up differently than the computer version. The conclusion to me is those guys have no idea what they have.

and very clearly at the bottom under Mechanical Information it states the following:

Features & Specifications *
Mechanical
2.4L SMPI DOHC 16V 4-cyl engine
Next generation engine controller
HD 6-speed manual transmission
Command-Trac part-time 4WD system
Dana 30/186MM front axle
Dana M35/194MM rear axle
3.73 axle ratio
600-CCA maintenance free battery
124-amp alternator
Skid plates-inc: transfer case, fuel tank
4450# GVWR

I just wouldn't trust a dealer that can't post accurate info on a vehicle was my point. If you click the free carfax report it lists it as the 4.0L

Its probably b/c your on the mobile page. Upon further looking at the ad, the dealer has this disclaimer

* These are the standard features and specifications for this vehicle. Actual features may vary. Please see the details for this vehicle above.

It was possibly to specifically order the SE with an I6 option. The upgrade price to I6 was less than the difference between the SE and Sport though, so Chrysler was very quiet about the possibility. As such, they are pretty rare.

If def had the straight 6 in it, I was surprised when I popped the hood. I called today to see if they were willing to meet me at my price. Already sold last night, some poor sucker paid full price on it.

You also save on sales tax though. If you're not trading some junkpile $1K vehicle in, sometimes it is worth it. Also, they aren't going to hunt you down if the trans drops out of it the next day, or something like that.

I've never traded a car in, and even recently just decided to keep my Infiniti when I bought the new JK because they would only give me around $10K for it. That said, there are definitely times when it makes sense to ponder a trade in.
