Troubles with 05 Wrangler Sport..??

Just wondering if anyone out there has had any of the same issues I've been having?
Earlier this year as I was driving my 2005 Wrangler Sport, my key actually fell out of the ignition and I didn't notice until I went to turn the engine off.
I thought, "what the ??" and I looked on my floorboard and there was my key. I stuck it in the ignition and turned my jeep off.
Then, last night, boyfriend and I got in the jeep and he drove. When we pulled in the drive I looked over and he was turning the jeep off and pulling HIS CHEVY SILVERADO keys out of my jeep ignition!!!! We were both dumbfounded and just to make sure we weren't losing our minds, he stuck his truck keys back in and the jeep started right back up.
What's going on? Is this normal??

It's not uncommon to have issues with the ignition switch pin breaking. It sounds like that is what happened to you! I don't have one on the site to suggest to you but if you google it or search it on the forum you'll find plenty of info on them! Let me know if you have any other questions or if you need more info!

My former 05 was the same. Worse you could take the key out after you turn the engine off, and pull the key out in the accessory position. When that happened, and if I got out quick, the accessories didn't come back on quickly. That meant they came on when I was in work all day, radio playing, and eventually battery dead.

I was thinking I wanted to fix this, and that meant putting in a new ignition. However, what I found was that the problem is 50% ignition, and 50% key wear. I went to the Jeep dealership and got a new key for other reasons. Yet I learned that this new key wouldn't fall out. For $13 I was all set, fixed with the new key.

By the way, getting a key is as easy as giving the dealership a vin.

The original key that I use every day can (has) fallen out of the ignition while driving. I can also take it out of the ignition in ACC or START/run positions, and put it back in. However, my spare keys, copied/cut off the original do not fall or cannot be pulled out of the ignition unless it is in the OFF position. Try having a new key cut at Walmart or the hardware store (no need to visit a dealer). YMMV, and invariably will...

My 2005 Sport does the SAME thing. You can pull the key out while you are driving, if it's in the accessory position, etc, etc. I don't have the original key anymore. It doesn't seem to matter what key it is. I don't have a "chip" key..it's just a plain ol key.

A few times I did run down the battery because I failed to turn it off all the way but now I have an aftermarket radio that makes a beeping noise when you turn the power off so I now know to listen for the beeping noise to make sure everything is off.

I rather like having the key like this. I can listen to my radio and have the doors open without it going beep beep beep and it makes getting out of my Jeep to open the garage door much easier as I don't have to turn it off to do so. Jeep doesn't seem to mind so why fix it?
