trunk box

I just received my trunk box i got off ebay. Problem is its for a yj not tj and the holes dont match up. The box fits but i am going to have to drill a few holes in the wheel wells. Does anyone know if this will have any adverse affects later on? Do i need to watch out for any particular problems? Also will this eventually rust, should i pretreat with a certain chemical? Thanks

Just make sure there aren't any wires where you want to drill, spray some undercoating liberally on your drill holes, screws, and you should be fine. My YJ has tons of holes in it. No rust with the weather being so hot, and dry. You can get that stuff at any auto parts store.

This is a good idea, can you take some pictures before we get you into trouble? I would like to see if any of the holes line up. And how it lines up with your wheel wells.

I have the Jeep box in my Jeep and attached via a bolts into the side fenders. No issues. As I recall I just made sure nothing was in the way. and started drilling a hole from inside the box.. then used that hole as a guide and drilled into the jeep.

After you install the bolts, you can always just reach up into the fender well and apply a rubber or silicone compound to the exposed bolts to prevent any rust.

How can i reach up in the fender? It seems that it is blocked by the fender wells. If i can somehow get in there i can use nuts on the backside.

Ok just finished with the box and it turned out ok. I did figure out how to get behind the fender well and its snug as a bug. There were a few hoses ie, gas filler tube and a few others but the bolts and drilling didnt go in that far. Thanks guys....
