Trying to figure out what this is?

Hi folks. I am a newb. I am the owner of a 2004 TJ. I was lubing the front end and I saw this. It is a hose with a white nipple on it and it was hanging against by exhaust pipe on the passenger side. It has a black tie down attached to it that looks like it may have broken away from where it should be attached. I've been trying to figure out what it is. Thanks in advance for any help.

My '90 has something that looks like that, it's a breather for the front diff I think.

It snakes back under the exhaust shield under the passenger side of the vehicle and looks like it may go to the transmission....not sure though without some dissassembly.

Yes, it is a 6 cylinder Automatic. Is this a breather line for the transmission or transfer case?

It could be either. You'll need to trace it back. If it's the breather for the transmission it should be up on the firewall by where the trans dipstick is. That's where it is on mine anyway. The higher the better also.
