Tub liner issues

Hi, I would eventually like to rust proof my tj by first lining the tub and second, undercoating it. When I pulled back my carpet, I noticed a sticker on the tranny hump that said you shouldn't drive without carpet because that area gets hot, not in those words. Is it possible for a tub liner to melt, or is there a way to prevent the heat from getting to it? Anyone know from experience? Thanks in advance

I haven't done it, yet, but I have seen several who have, CJ's, YJ's and a few TJ's. I plan to get some more of the foil adhesive that is already on the floor and line the sides of the tunnel at least...

It gets warm and sometimes it can be a little uncomfortable to touch but I only figured that out because I wondered myself how hot it gets. But it deffinatley will not melt the liner at all. It doesnt get near hot enough to do that. Its not something that should be a cause for concern if you want to lign your tub. Mine is completley fine and its been in for a few years now. So if you want to lign it then deff. go for it, the heat isnt that intense.

Yes, it does get hot, but not to a point where its a danger. Compare it to the warning of "rollover risk" that is on your visor! Its just a precautionary statement that Jeep puts on there to cover their ass.

Many of my friends have removed carpet, duralined or durabecked the tub and everything is fine.

This is my next project.....I hear to durabeck it yourself is quite the project. Anyone wanna help? I'll provide the beer!

Just don't provide too much beer, and by all means, DO NOT apply this product while wearing sandals! Don't ask how I know....

I did Herculiner and its super simple. Deff. a one person job. If you can roll a paint roller than you can apply this stuff. And its fast. Two hours between coats and you only need 2 coats total. If you wanted 3 you could but its not really necessary. By the next day mine was cured enough to use. Then in about 3 days it will fully harden and trust me, its plenty tough.

i was gonna ask this very question.
i just got home from a camping trip in moab, and when i got back a small travel pillow i had just thrown in the back with some other camping supplies had partially melted due to the heat from the tranny i guess! haha it was kinda funny.
anyways, instead of vacuuming up all that sand and crap, i decided to just pull up all my old carpet, and this weekend im planning on lining the tub. i too noticed that sticker that said "do not remove carpet" it made me wonder because of what it did to my pillow while the carpet was still in! haha oh well, too late now, the carpet was in poor shape, and is in the garbage now. i dont think i will have a problem with the liner due to heat.

You should also limit to two (2) the number of HOT CHICKS which you carry in your jeep. It isn't a fire hazard so much as having any more than that number can be hazardous to your mental health and their ego.

I am dying to do mine, will it hurt the resale value at all? I really want to have it done, I will probably do it myself with Hercu linner. Will it hurt my resale value and can you still put your carpet in over it?

Yea, you can throw the carpet in over it, just give it a couple of weeks to totally set up, Then check it a few times to make sure it's not sticking. We did our old YJ but we used the rustoleum stuff, put the carpet back in about a week later and never had a problem with it sticking BUT it has a pretty rough 'no slip' finish that tends to wear the back of the carpet.
