Tube Fenders arrived Monday:

They arrived at the shop first thing in the morning. Made for a long day to end. The boss kept me from the shop and out of town til' 5:15pm. Any way loaded them up and headed for the house stopping first to get some Etching Primer and some cleaner for the metal prep.

Took them into the garage for a quick test fit before clean up and first coat. Son of a bitch! They didn't fit!!!???? Messed with them til' about 9:30pm last night. Told myself that I was going to sleep on it before calling Chris at the fab shop.

Today, just kept thinking things over and decided that instead of sending them back. I was going to handle it myself.
Tonight I sized them up again and have one dry fitted and I will have the other fitted tomorrow for sure. The mod is not such a big deal and you can hardly tell. I will post pics when I get the other one in and see if you guys can pick out the change to the original body.

Just got home from work. Going to eat and then started on the second fender. I want get the hood brackets fit up. So no more holes will need to be done to them.

The complete project from there will need to stop til' the weather gets above 50* for the primer to set up. So the pics you get will be the fenders fit up unpainted. With no inner walls as well. Going to work on designing those using the original fender wells. As much as I can tomorrow morning and as much as I can after TG dinner in the evening.

Nice! What about them didn't fit? I'll be installing a set of flattie tube fenders just about to hit the market sometime in December, I can't wait.

I wish I could have got a pic of the way they fit without modification. Bolted to the tub the were 1" past the grill. So they would not bolt upfront. In the side pics you can just see how I need to stretch the front end. I will get some front-side pics when I pull it out again.

I almost think they were made for a JK by mistake, the way they fit. But I was not going to wait another day for another set.lol

Thanks. Man I was trippin' when I heard they arrived, pissed off when they wouldn't fit, and now I can't wait to finish them. Next will be stubbing/boxing the bumper and doing something with turning/off road lights.

1" past the grill!?? Wow, I think that would have stumped me. How in the world did you "stretch the front end" to fix that?

They are from White Rhino Fab and they ran me $530 after tax and shipping. I ended up getting the 3" flare to cover the tires more and that cost me $125 from the original cost.

Jerry, I took the grill supports loose. The two bars that run over top of the engine and started to shoe horn. It really was not that bad. They were more like an inch on the top and 3/8" on the bottom. In the end the grill and radiator are almost vertical. The front most of the grill is about 3/4" farther than the hood. If there was any gap between the two I would have been stumped too. But fortunately even the hood latch even works. The radiator doesn't touch the hood.

Today so far I have mocked up the P/S fender well. Taken from the old fender. This is to mount the fuse block, A/C line, winch cables, and to block out any mud from my CAI. Ya, I still run it, has not given me problems where I run.
Tonight I would like to finish the D/S fender well, drill the hole for the hood latches. Then take it all back apart and store it til' the weather warms up for paint.

sounds like you know what you're talking about, looking great!

question: is a factory silver paint job or is it something you did yourself? i am absolutely intrigued by this cold/metal type of silver, and i don't think the factory one looks that good... or is it just the picture..?

Robin, the paint is the way it came from the factory. There are a couple of other around here of the same color.

Update: Turkey day kicks my ass every year. I did not do shizz last night do to it. Tonight the fenders are on and strait. Fender wells trimmed and installed. And the hood latches are as well. Lines are correct and strait. Tomorrow morning I will have day light pics before everything comes back apart.
The high is supposed to be 57*F, good enough to clean and prime. I will do that in the garage and bring them into the wood shop where it is 65*. I want to have at least three coats of primer before I lay down the HL. I want to do the fender wells a different color than the fenders them selves, still deciding.
While I am waiting between coats I am also going to work on the bumper and my P/S LCA that is also bent to sh!t. If all works out right I will be back on the road Monday or Tuesday.

This is all I can say. Clean. Those sparkles are the material used in the manufacturing of the tube.

I am looking at the same issue. I was looking today and I think they will go perfectly on the front of the fender well right near the head lights. But I am still looking. Definitely going LED though. White or yellow IDK. As far as the fitment issue I am not going to make a big deal about it. This has been the first body work I have done and I learned a lot about the way jeeps are put together.

Today's update: Everything is apart, and hanging with two coats of primer. The color I chose for the fender wells are as follows; engine compartment side silver engine paint (hopefully something close to the jeeps silver). The tire side will be this rubberized coating that resist salt and chipping (black of coarse). And finally black Herculiner for the outside of the tubers. I only bought a half gallon, I want to see how much this is going to take. I am going to do the inner tub with it also.

Jerry.. I did get some day light pics. of the side front to show you how far the grill sticks out and how strait up it is. They will not post up for me though.

Next time I type here everything will be painted/coated and installed. Then I will work on the bumper. Any Idea's other than stubbing it.....?
