Exclamation tuffy center console?

i haven't even had my jeep for a week and i caught some guy walking all around it outside walmart. it wouldn't have bothered me much if he didn't run/walk away in such a shifty manner...i mean hey when i was lthinking about buying a jeep, i looked in and around a few jeeps here and there lol!

i really dont want to have my softtop slashed. so i will be leaving my doors open from now on.

im interested in the steel center console and the glove box. does anyone have any pictures of either installed. how close are the colors?

gah im pissed.

Mine doesn't go to Wally World or the Mall. If thieves had any common sense, they would just unzip the window. Duh

If thieves had common sense maybe they could land a job.

Even that doesn't deter some of the stupidest. I have a soft top and half doors. Never once locked them. Some moron still cut through my driver's side window to get in. All there was to steal was two and a half packs of cigarettes and a lighter. One of those packs must have fallen out of his (don't know why I assume it was a "he" - reverse sexism maybe) pocket when he broke into another Jeep farther down the parking lot of my complex. I know from a discussion that I had with the owner a couple of days later. He found them and smoked them, but better him than the thief.

After that I just felt like hanging a sign on the door that just reads: "unlocked."

I am running the glovebox and the full center console with stereo locking cover.

I love them. I have a kill switch for the starter hidden in my center console as well, to make life that much harder for a wanna-be.

The stuff is bullet proof, they'd have to take the whole car before they crack one of those open.

I picked up a basic tuffy center console lock box for a steal on clearence off crutchfield and love the thing. I store my radio, gps, sirius radio, wallet, $, and even patient's drugs when I am transporting them from the pharmacy and I need to make a stop before getting to their house. I would reccomend them to anyone! Took 1 hr to install including drilling the 2 holes to bolt it to the chasis.

Red face pics?

i mean i have seen the stock pics but i would like to see some real pictures.

it doesnt really matter...i plan on keeping the jeep till it dies, and i certainly need a place to put my valuables....so i will be buying them either way.
im just curious as to what level of fit and finish these things have...do the look good? what do the look like inside etc.

im just a visual person, and i like bugging people.

im thinking about getting this: speakerstorage-security
and this: glove-box

I can see if I can grab some pics in the next few days. IMO they are not meant to be pretty but serve a purpose and it fits perfect. I actually think it is more comfortable as well since it has a nice pad on the armrest. And forget about getting your jeep key to work in it. It is a totally dif style lock that is built to be tough. It really isnt bad though, just keep the key next to your jeep key on your keychain.

Smile thanks

i just want the glove box and the center console to be the same key.
but i took that question out of the post because i found this:key alike

im mostly concerned about fit, and professional quality. its going in a jeep so it just has to look like it fits..im not trying impress anyone.

how do i know which color to get, im assuming i can look on the door jamb or in the existing glove box to find the interior color code.

they have a few that look close. light gray, charcoal, dark slate etc.

on more question

anyone have the box with the sub enclosure?

does it sound good considering its just a steel box, and it only fits an 8 inch sub? i will be overhauling the audio system in the near future and im thinking about incorporating a sub. 8 inches wouldn't be much but i like the idea of killing two birds with one stone and maximizing space elsewhere.

let me know what you think.

thanks for all the input!

I have a rear half sub console that replace from the cup holders back. The sub console is designed for the stock sub enclosure to fit in. You can install a larger sub directly inside the case but it is not the proper enclosure. You will have to have an audio person to chime in if it can work. I have seen plans around for an enclosed box to put a sub in, inside the the console.

If you have an early TJ as I do, you can just install Tuffy's console liner that fits inside the OE console. It's a lot cheaper and does the same job. I think they work for models up to around 2002.

Hmmm

I probably could make some sort of locking box for the back but I have so many other projects that are half finished laying around. And I really need to get something up and running asap. I leave my jeep parked outside at work, it isn't uncommon for me to work untill midnight or later. the jeep is currently parked outside my home (untill I get rid of my motorcycles). So basically I'm becoming extremely paranoid lol.

NJdevil yours looks great though!

anyway. I just need to figure out the color issue and decide whether or not I want the ceter console to have the sub enclosure or not.

Thanks again for all the help guys!! this forum makes having a jeep a lot more interesting. I'm glad I took the time to join.

I got the center console inside the stock console, glove box, and a rear cargo box.. but I lost the nut-inserts for the back box so can't use it. Can't find the nuts either.. .

I originally looked into one of those but it really didnt seem to offer much space. The tuffy box I picked up offers 2x the spaced than the stock console had.

too much caffiene?

hyper eh?

i still want to see detailed pictures of the console that has the sub enclosure before i actually order it..
Ive contacted Tuffy..we will see if they can produce any better pictures.
it looks like it would benefit their sales... as many people are similarly interested.

that make take a while, so if anyone has pics on hand or feels like running out to the garage...that would be awesome.

dynamat?

im guessing i would have to dynamat the console so it doesnt rattle like a mofo....

also, most mid/high quality after market head units will power a small sub with out an auxiliary amp correct? kind of a noob in regaurds to car audio.

I dont have any experience with the sub enclosure since I have two 12's in the rear but the regular one I have is solid as it gets and doesnt budge.

As for head units powering your sub, you can pretty much forget about it. They make amps small enough these days that they can easily be tucked away. IMO the full tuffy consoles with room for a sub are way over priced and the room for the sub is pretty tiny. You might be better off picking up a 12" in a regular box with small amp and just bolting it in the back.

this is why

this is why i need tuffy (or someone) to send me pictures!

i thought that my old alpine head unit was able to power a sub without a amp. i mean i am not against wiring in a small amp. but i just thought i didn't have to. no biggie either way.

i don't want to put a box in the back, i need/want the space.
i mean id love to but i know i will end up taking it out all the time.
id be better off skipping the sub.

you guys are prolly tired of hearing about my stupid tuffy box problems.
im just gonna shut up and worry about something else on the jeep lol....maybe.

The factory sub has a small amp with it, it is not powered off the amp in the dash unit. It works well for what it is, but it is not designed to be bass thumper by any means. It is designed to work with the 7 speaker set-up in the optional sound package.

i dont have the factory sub

i was just looking to supplement my four speaker setup...not looking for anything earth shattering....just something to add fullness. i think an 8 inch sub would be fine. i don't need to compete with the fellas who hang out at my local car wash. Although i do think my jeep would look hot with some 24 inch rims and a big airbrush rendition of some familiar cereal box cartoon character on it...

also thinking about tweeters but that may not be necessary if i get good speakers...which i plan to....anyway, all this is down the road a month or two. im really just trying to decide if i should get the security box with the sub enclosure. because i need to make sure no one steals my shit. (creepy guy walking around my jeep at walmart)

I'm going to look into a new console as well. A few years back I had someone get into my TJ (fortunately, these people were smart enough to open the unlocked doors instead of slicing through my top), and they ripped open the locked console. They stole a Leatherman, which made me pissed, but I did laugh that they stole a pair of sunglasses from the Dollar Tree and left the sunglasses case worth much more than the glasses. From then on, I've never kept anything of significant value in the car.

I keep an old Sony Diskman in the console and have a cassette tape adapter. I can play my CDs and iPod just fine, the set up is pretty cheap, and I don't have to worry about someone breaking in to steal an installed CD player.
