Tuffy Security/speaker console??

Tuffy 066-02 - Tuffy Speaker & Security Console for 97-06 Jeep Wrangler TJ & Unlimited - Quadratec

Just curious if anyone can give some opinions with this product..
I am not overly thrilled with the current audio set up in my TJ currently.. and my center console lock was broken when I bought my TJ..
So I am considering this as a good option for me!
I currently dont have the sub in the center console, and with the above listed product, I would need to install an after market 8 inch sub correct?
Thanks!!!!

I have the full console in our LJ and the just the subwoofer console in the TJ. They are rock solid and its nice to have the cushion on the armrest. Install is easy and straight forward with minor drilling. They'll be out there a while trying to get it open.

The full console with shifter etc is metal, make sure you prefer the look to the plastic. It has a single spot for change if you don't have the air bag shutoff. It does allow you to change the color of our console though

If you don't have the sub and have no plans for one, buy the non sub woofer version and get more space. If you like your small cup holders, keep the front half and just get the back. Tuffy 055-01 - Tuffy Rear-Half Speaker Console for 01-06 Jeep Wrangler TJ & Unlimited - Quadratec (note this is the subwoofer version) TJ Series II Security Console (Without Front Shifter Console) for Jeep Wrangler, TJ, Unlimited LJ (no speaker rear version)

You get the idea. Shop around 4wd.com has free shipping on occasion.

thats pretty expensive for just a center console. you would have to also buy a sub to put it in there.
if you want better sound, i suggest just buying a sub and putting it a box thatll fit behind the rear seat. 1 10 should be enough for most people without sacrificing too much space. also, change out the dash speakers and roll bar and maybe put a couple 6x9s in boxes on the rear wheelwells and youre good to go

I love mine! I purchased it with an eye on security though, not sound quality. I have no issue with the quality of the sound personally... I can feel the factory sub thump just fine... but I suspect there are ways to get far better sound quality from a sub, even in a Jeep. Installation was fairly painless.

I installed the one with the stereo compartment in the console last summer and I absolutely love it. I got the locking dash too so I can park anywhere and leave the top down without having to worry about anything. You do loose your front cup holders with this setup, however. Also, the cover for the stereo rattles pretty good in the closed position.

I have the Tuffy console and I use the sub when I'm on the trail. For regular driving I have a sub in back I can take in/out as needed.

My subwoofer or the enclosure itself makes a popping noise if I have it too loud. It did it both before and after the carpet was removed. I have enough clearance, so I'm just wondering if I'm overpowering it a bit.

Other than that, I'm VERY happy with it.

I decided to start off with the Best Top InstaTrunk first...
Picked one up new on Amazon for 129 w/ free S&H.

Next step will either be the tuffy console insert or a whole new center console..
Still not sure about that!

That's a great piece... I have one of these as well. Just take care (don't overtighten) when installing the "nutserts," or whatever they call them... they have a tendency to strip out.

Installed it today... didn't use the flaring bolts that came with... I just used 4 bolts with washers that were already in the holes...
Love having it installed.
Might make putting the seat in/out a little more tedious, but well worth having a secure storage area!
