tune up time,Which performance mounts work

98 sport 4.0 200k miles and has recently started losing power and sometimes stumbles on acceleration

Im about to go thru all the sensors, fuel system and change the timing chain/gear sets

what are gimmicks and what works on the 4.0

timing gears instaed of chain, pros and cons?
a milder camshaft.....which one?
Fuel pump or pressure regulator?
Catback system?

With my 31's I use to get 16mpg now its dropped to about 12 in the past 2 months.I checked the cat converter temps it was 263 in and 354 out so It doesnt seem clogged

I run an ax-15 on 3.07 gears until I regear to 4.56 and add 33" tires sometime this year.I dont exceed 2500 rpms, mostly shift at 2000.i run my Jeep onroad like a grandpa, offroad I ride in mud,2nd gear low, maybe 3rd.No excess skinny pedal.

bottom line im looking to awaken my sleepy engine, not looking for high performance but a couple extra ponies wouldnt hurt.

I have seen a lot of people say the same thing and usually ends up being a simple tune up and check the throttle body. Take off the intAke and look down into the throttle body. If its all black and nasty that's prob your main issue. Not to experienced with motors but that's just from what I've read on this forum over the years. Search for throttle body cleaning. There are a couple good threads that show you how to take it apart and clean it up. Good luck!

Driving like a grandpa isn't helping you. The 4.0 doesn't like to lug and keeping it below 2500 RPM at all times isn't helping the mileage at all. Properly geared rigs are normally IN the 2500 range at all times when cruising and I've found that to be the sweetspot for keeping the 4.0 happy. After you give it some new plugs and clean the intake, drive it a bit harder and rev it a bit higher. And any time you think you need to use 5th, use 4th instead, otherwise you'll just bog it.

pulled off the intake hose after the engine was warmed up from riding
while engine was at idle I slowly poured in 8oz of seafoam into the throttle body
Let the engine rest for 10 minutes with seafoam sitting inside

Started the engine up and reved for several minutes no higher than 2000 rpm until smoke was minimal,The test drove the crap out of the Jeep doing plenty 0-60 runs, shifting at around 4k rpm

Man what a diffrence the seafoam made on performance and cleaning out the carbon. The smoke from the seafoam also showed me some minor exhaust leaks I had.

So now what about camshaft and exhaust?
what works well for the old girl?

Tommorow I'll fill the tank up and install the other 8oz into the fuel

Nice, I just bought seafoam today to do that same cleaning. Going to try to get to it today if the rain will ease up. Whats the best line to pour it into?

I removed the air intake tube and poured it slow into the throttle body but the brake booster vac line works just as well
