Turbo on my 4.0

My buddy drives a subaru wrx and blew the engine in it haha, and bought a new one. He is going to now part out his old engine and has the turbo and everything needed to run it, still works great. So i guess my question is can i get that to work with my jeep?

Thanks Nick.

You can always do everything, but will it be worth it? Turbos are pretty easy to put on as long as you can weld to rearrange the exhaust. I have done this on a car before, but not a Jeep. Same principle though. Last thing i would want when crawling is a boost of power at 2500 rpm. That would cause problems for me.

Dig through here and jeepforum, I'm almost positive I've seen a link somewhere to a turbo swap. Find out what kind of turbo it is and when it spools up and all that fun stuff. Google is your friend. Definitely curious though

The rest of your drivetrain may not be able to handle the extra power. Every modification causes some type of additional upgrade downstream.

The smaller the turbo the less lag. Remember, turbos build torque. With an automatic you can really manipulate the turbo. Their power is so fluid i wouldnt think drivetrain would suffer much.

When set up properly its not like that. We arent talking about an instant shot of nitrous or anything, its boost. Doesnt have to be much different then the boost of a supercharger.

I too have done a few turbo set ups on cars, and it could be done on a Jeep much the same way. If you you can weld and have some basic fab skills you can do it cheaper then most SC kits out. The problem is and difference in this and what I have done is as mentioned above...Jeeps come in many different forms. The rest of your Jeep may not be up to it. Its not like taking an LSx motor and drivetrain designed with the idea of power being increased. There are axles and trans/tcase set ups in Jeeps that will grenade if you try to have fun with the new power.
