turn my tj into a bad ass jeep

I have a 97 tj with a 2.5. My ultimate goal is to turn it into a bad ass jeep, I want to put in a v8. I will use it as my daily driver as I do now. I will take it off road on some trails but nothing to crazy. I'm not into rock crawling.
I would like to here some of what all you think I should do as far as axles, gearing, engine, tranny. I love my jeep and never had that hot rod I wanted when I was young , so this will be it. Maybe some ideas of where to start, maybe do axles first ect. Any and all info will help and be appreciated.
Thanks!

LOL, that's like saying "I just bought a pony and I want to look like a bad assed cowboy and I need to know what kind of gear I should get. I really only want to do trail rides, nothing to crazy cuz I'm not into Rodeos".

I'm not much of an image guy and try to buy the parts that I can use for what I need them for but you can certainly build her how she suits you. There are a couple people I noticed that used built up Jeeps for mud-boggin' and some speed trail stuff. I think they were from New Zeeland. That looked kinda cool.

Bad ass for what...mall crawling? If you're looking to build a poser Jeep that's fine but the questions you ask are those that get asked by individuals that actually take their Jeep off road. If you want a Poser it would be a lot cheaper to buy someone's used Jeep that already has all the work done... BTW, it's a Jeep not a hot rod, so if you're looking for a hot rod just by one. Kinda like the guys that put snorkles on so they can go through water...buy a boat.

Good place to start would be to spend more on mods than you paid for the entire rig...

Almost guarantee a jeep with a newer LS motor is not only going to out perform his jeep but it will best it in fuel mileage also... Agreed though, little weird.

Sounds fun but you're talking about a lot of personal choices. Axles are a good place to start but you need to research.

Starting from scratch, unlimited budget...

Currie Rockjock Axles
Suspension/Wheels (too many options)
Atlas Transfer Case
Tummy Tuck - Aluminum Plates
Tom Woods Drive Shafts
TCI Super Street Fighter Transmission
Griffen Thermal Radiator
Louvered Hood
Hotwire Auto/Squire Wire Harness
LS9 Crate engine (LS7 in a pinch)
Custom exhaust/headers
Warn Winch - Synthetic Line

This list is far from complete. The devil is in all the small parts and mods needed to pull this off.

Why can't it be both a better than stock trail rig and something that will smoke 99% of everything else stoplight to stoplight. It is possible.

Or this!

Attachment 712505

Anyone remember the 1969 Z-L1, this is one of 427 that GM made a run of just this year. I just love the nostalgia behind it.

So you want a "bad ass jeep" to do "some trails" that a stock Jeep could probably do....

Agree with this except the snorkel part. I'm just going not not say anything and watch this thread. haha

Bicycle streamers on your side view mirrors. Baseball card in your wheels. Racing pin stripes decal. A basket on your front bumper. An extra set of smaller miniature wheels on your rear axle to stabilize if you start to tip. Take out your backseat and put in four 12" subs. Lower the truck. Pretty badass imo

Because suspension setups are compleatly different for trail riding and straight line acceleration. Your trying to make a mountain goat perform like a gazelle.

Get a hemi and weld ladder bars to the back axle lol. Or use your jeep for trails and buy a used sports car. Way cheaper than trying to turn a jeep into a dragster.

What ever happened to, "welcome to the WF, glad you're here"? Why just jump right in there and flame the OP simply because he wants to do something different with his Wrangler than what the majority deems is normal? Does that make him less of a Jeeper?

Respect Each Other: Our underlying philosophy is that we want The Wrangler Forum to be an online reflection of the wheeling community. Treat each other with respect just as you would on the road. Talking smack or challenging others' points of view and opinions is fine as long as you do so in a respectful manner.

Not a whole lot of respect shown in this thread!

To the OP, welcome to the WF! I truly hope that some of the responses you have received here won't discourage you from posting more. Believe it or not, most of the members here are much more tolerant than what you have seen thus far.
