unable to get part

Short of buying a whole steering column, I am unable to get the piece [no part number on the broken part] that is just after the lock cylinder and and acts at the mechanical part of the ignition switch. A small part of the white metal is broken and for that reason the key does not activate the starter. Dealer says this three inch long part is only sold with the entire steering column [more than $600.oo]. Saw a port on a PT Cruiser site that indicated PT had same type of problem. "when i disconnected the starter switch from steering column , small piece of metal half an inch long wide as a toothpick fell of. There is a shaft that links the key cylinder to the ignition switch. with broken piece, switch would still turn but not all the way to crank position. tried to glue piece back on, but it broke again." Any ideas?

Perfect excuse to install the push to start switch I want. Send me your old column and I will send you mine lol. If I am correct you would be able to turn the key and push the button, or you can just bypass the ignition switch altogether.

Thank me when you start your jeep with its new super cool PTS Switch

What the dealer is saying is not true at all. It is an expensive little bugger of a part, but it IS a dealer part. Mine broke around 1pm on a Friday a couple weeks ago, the dealer had the part in stock, and I had the Jeep back running by 6pm.

Found part at
Dorman Products - 924-704.
Part is a "IGNITION SWITCH ACTUATOR PIN".
This outfit makes parts that manufacturers sell only in bundles. They may be a source for other odd-ball parts.
