Under-hood Insulation...

Anybody know if they make an under-hood insulated pad for the TJ, or if the insulation pad from another model (or year...I have an '05) would fit/work on my Jeep? Or maybe someone has another idea...an insulation material that can be made/cut to fit under the hood. The goal is to cut down on the heat reaching the hood to try to protect the paint from oxidizing too soon. Thanks in advance.

I've wondered myself. My hood has some paint problems starting due to the direct heat.

Are you sure it's engine heat causing your paint problem? My '97 TJ was old with 182,000 miles on it and its paint on the hood was still fine.

I don't have major problems.. just little clear coat cracks that look like x's. It's only got 108k on it and stays waxed. Maybe not.. but I'm sure it doesn't help.

Problems with the clear coat come into play dealing with UV light mostly. Waxing helps, but will not eliminate the UV light problem. It actually breaks down the cross linking of the polymer in the clear coat. Also when it comes to heat I guarantee that the sun beating down on your hood will exceed the temp that it gets to due to a warm engine.

My '97 has factory fitted under bonnet insulation pad and the moss green/pearl clearcoat paint is crazed pretty bad.
