I am getting ready to undercoat and coat my inner frame to protect against rust. I am planning on using POR-15 along with their prep supplies like degreaser. For the frame I am using Eastwood inner frame coat.
My only question is what should I avoid when undercoating. I have extended breather hoses that specifically said to not put rust preventatives or paint on. Anything else other than hoses and electrical components? If anyone has links to how others have done undercoating and rust prevention that would be great.
I'm going with "sheep goo"....Fluid Film and will re-apply every year. I just don't think the hard coatings can get the job done in the areas that you cannot prep...like the inside of the frame.
I've got a 2000 with a rust free frame and have been thinking wheel bearing grease inside to keep it that way. Got to look at some rusty frames first to see where it starts.
Did the whole put up on ramps, rinse for several hours, dig in with a magnet stuff to get as much out of the inside of the frame as I could. Then I used 4 cans of Eastwoods internal frame coating. It goes in easy, but that stuff leaves quite a mess if dripped on the ground, so do it somewhere outside where stains on the ground will not matter. I then did a lot of wire brushing on the frame and did POR 15 in spots. I am not sure how effective that is, but I am storing mine for the winters up here in Michigan so that should be better than any rust protection I can buy.
Chassis saver is a good method also. It is a 1 step process and less expensive.
