Unsatisfied girlfriend w/jeep

hey yall, my girl just bought a 97 jeep sport 4.0, shes had it for 5 days and now it wont start. i had to tow her back home. it started on the 4th day, it took 5 key turns to finally start then today it would would crank but just wouldnt turn on. checked all fuses wires, and it does spark at the cap. next was the fuel but we couldnt check the line cause we didnt have the proper tools. is there anything else we could check? we hear the fuel pump click when we turn the key, but could there still be something wrong with it. any advise would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Could be something like a crank sensor or cam sensor. If they are dead or out of position the vehicle wont start... but thats just something else ot think of.

Check the battery, if battery is good, check the starter.

Have you checked the sparkplugs? I don't know how many miles yours has but I have a 97 with 99500 I've had for a couple months now and I Chanced the factory plugs, cap, and rotor button. The thing may just need a tune-up. I 'm still lookin' to change out the factory wires. As far as the fuel just put a 1/4 cup of gas in the throttle body or spray a slight mist of cleaner while trying to start it if it runs it could be the pump or an injector. I also cleaned my t-body it was nasty.

Ok try this.. turn the key to on but dont start it just stop right when the lights turn on.. just turn it so the lights go on for like 3 seconds.. then shut the key back to off position.. now turn it to on position again and wait 3 seconds.. then shut it off again then turn it on again wait 1-2 seconds now and try starting it... see if that helps.. i'm not joking btw.. if it works her problem is weak/bad fuel pump

If it's the battery then soon it won't even turn over at all. So that would be pretty obvious.

So, I would tend to lean towards the Crank Position Sensor also.

Your talking about priming the fule pump, it might work, but it wont fire if there isn't a signal being sent to the pump

I'd check the voltage the battery has, then see what voltage is getting to the starter. I'm wondering if the battery cables are bad.

When you turn the key to on position but not start the engine, the fuel pump turns on and stops after 2ish seconds. A weak fuel pump will loose pressure once shut off so by doing that couple of times you will build the pressure. The signal is an 2 seconds regular 12 volt signal that usually drives it. He says it cranks but it wont start so the battery has to be good.

See if it will start with some starting fluid to narrow it down a bit.

Thanks guys, the mechanic at the dealership said he'd take a look at it, but who knows what he is capable of. he didnt even tighten the battery cable tight enough when we first picked it up. I'll hopefully be taking the fuel line off and see if its sending anything to the injectors, if not then i'll use some starting fluid and see if it maybe wants to turn on.
And hopefully thats all that my girlfriend is unsatisfied about.
thanks again yall
