Used Rubicon Express LA or New Rock Krawler??

Ok, need some opinions.
I have a 06 Rubicon w/ Rough Country 6" lift with Rancho 9000XL shocks adjustable track bars and I want to get rid of it! So I've been looking for something else...

I found a used RE Extreme Duty 3.5" with Springs and shocks for around $1400. Everything is in good condition...

OR
I wait and save up for a Rock Krawler 3.5" X-Factor with Coil Over $3200?

I've heard good things about both.

What are your thoughts on USED lifts?
What parts would you replace right away at point of installation?
I just replaced my rear drive shaft with a RE CV joint...what are chances that I can use that on a different lift?
I'm running 35's and want to continue too.

I would say go with the new lift. But are you capable of doing all the fab work for the front coilovers?

Been reading up on the RE kits and not many people have good things to say about their bushing. For $200 you can get MetalCloak's bushing kit here RE Long Arm Duroflex Upgrade Kit. Might be a worthwhile investment to improve the ride and save you some coin in the long run.

I wouldn't be afraid of a used lift saying all the components are in good shape. Think of all the other things you can do with the extra 2k! That being said, make sure it's in top condition and try and negotiate price down a bit.

He stated everything is in good condition and in working condition. And hinted at possible $1200 to get rid of it....so the price looks even better. I'm a hardcore believer in doing things right the FIRST TIME. And just hate having to do it over again.

He suggested changing out the joints and I was considering the Upgrade kit others have suggested. And having a Jeep AND an extra 2K in my wallet just wouldn't seem right! So I'd have to get the MT/R's...

SO...is the MAIN issue everyone seems to have with RE the joints?

RE is knowing for their poorly put together bushings. Their flex-joints are acceptable for some. Most RE arms have the bushing/flex-joint combo and I would just replace the bushings if the used lift kit is in top notch shape and replace them with MetalCloaks duroflex joints and you should be good to go.

There is an re 3.5 on Craigslist (I'm also in co). For 1200.00 Obo. Been up a long time. Also has a locked d60.. You can buy both from him for the price of the Krawler lift

Glad I read this. I have a RE short arm and I drive maybe 3k per year highway only. I am however rough on it on the street. Replace and have problems with bushings constantly and replace about every 3k miles. I have a RE 4.5" long arm I am going to install and because of reading this am going to really look into the metal cloak bushings before install. Thanks

Be very cautious about buying a used lift. Look up the kit online and write down a list of every single item in the kit, including hardware such as bolts and clips. Anything missing is more expense on top of the kit itself and once you add the cost of the MC Duroflex joints you could be well on your way to having a brand new Rock Krawler lift with a lifetime warranty on hard parts.

Also keep in mind that Rock Krawler's springs are designed with full weight factored into their lift height- that's bumpers, armor, skids, etc.

If you know what you're doing and are experienced with different lift kits you can save a whole lot of money going the RE route; just be sure you are actually getting EVERYTHING. Also see if you can find out what sort of extras he had on his Jeep and how often/hard he wheeled on the RE lift to get an idea of whether the springs/shocks could be worn out. Also, keep in mind... if the RE kit is in such great shape... why did he replace it? If you go through all those questions and still feel comfortable purchasing the kit, go for it- there's an awful lot you can do with the money you'll save... but there's also a lot of value in peac of mind knowing you have a warranty on your parts.

Now that I've contributed essentially nothing to ease you making your decision...

I specifically mentioned the joints in reference to making sure he's looking at a total cost, including any missing hardware or other parts.

ANY THOUGHTS ON THIS LIFT BUT GOING WITH METAL CLOAK'S 6PAK SPRINGS & SHOCKS? ($1999)

SO SAY $1000 FOR THE USED LIFT THEN $1999 FOR METAL CLOAKS' 6 PAK...MIGHT JUST BE BETTER TO SAVE A LITTLE LONGER AND GET (EVERYTHING) NEW...WITH A WARRANTY....

He said he went to a 4link suspension...
