Using upper doors w/o surrounds??

So, I've been completely doorless and topless since May roughly, but have kept the upper portion of my door surrounds attached to the rollbar for those days when the sun has been a bit more than fierce down here in S. Florida.

The weather for this week calls for 80+ percent of rain, and I'll be in the field for the majority of the week. Since I don't have my doors and windows anywhere even remotely nearby, if I borrowed a set of doors and upper windows, can I drive around WITHOUT issue if I don't have that lower piece of the door surround in place?

Anyone done this? I imagine that I should avoid highway speeds, but would the trips into and around town if needed be alright?

Thanks for your input!

Andre

If your soft top is that same as mine yeas because the soft top only slips in the top the window slides in the channel on the lower peice.

IG,

I mean that if I take my door surround off, it is hinged together. There is the top channel that the top tucks into, and there is the window channel that the windows tuck into. The surround itself, hinges in the middle and can fold (like a collapsible boomerang, if that makes sense). I usually remove the e-clip and put the section that bolts on the rollbar back in place. This way, I can secure the top a bit better if I need to leave it up for an extended period of time while highway driving.

So, if I have removed this other piece of my door surround, and only have the part on top, can I still use my doors and soft windows without it? We apparently have some tropical storm type rains heading this way, and it would be nice to stay just a bit drier than normal if I need to drive thru it.

the rear soft windows will flap in the wind, right? since they attach to the vertical part of the door surround....

Yes, most likely the rears will flap, however, I don't have those attached to the Jeep. What I'm asking about is if the soft upper doors will have any issues if I travel around town without that piece of the surround in place. Just the upper doors are the concern since I don't have the other windows with me.

If I had the other pieces, it would be so much easier. Next time, I should just plan to bring them with me So for now, I'm trying to figure out what will work with what I got.
