I used Valvoline, Exxon, Mopar and other engine oils (10W-40) and never felt any difference.

Valvoline is fine. IMO just pick a brand and weight (10w30 or what your book says] and stick with it plus use a good quality filter. I live down south so I will never use anything thinner than 10w30.

I am still trying to get used to $3.99 a qt oil!

You see all the hype about all the oils but who to beleave? I was looking up some stuff one day when I found a corvette forum that did a test on a bunch of different oils. They had a viscosity testor and no bs. The results suprised me. They tested mobil full synthetic, catrol, and many others. They showed the wear on the rollers or bearings and mobil was one of the worst tested. The top 3= Royal purple, Some other race oil, and the next oil was valvoline durablend. This oil isn't even a full synthetic. I know one thing I only locked up one motor and it was when I tried mobil 1 in one oil change. I will never use mobil again.

If you really want to test your oil...

Blackstone Labs

Quote from their FAQ that cracks me up.

Quote:
I think $22.50 seems kind of steep for an oil analysis. I know other labs do it cheaper. Why should I pay you $22.50?
Because a person - not a computer - sits down and writes the comments for each and every sample we do. We look at your results and tell you in plain English how your engine is doing. Plus, if you call us you always get a live person, and we're happy to talk to you about your results. Plus, each report is infused with love. Can't you feel it? Feel the looooove!
