Vanco Brake Kit?

Hey everyone,

So after much research on this, and other forums I decided I want to go ahead and purchase the Vanco Big Brake Kit... However upon ordering it from Savvy, found out that it is on Back order because they're currently not being manufactured...

Does anyone know if anyone else can carry it, or the next best option? I know black magic brake has some good options, but not specifics?

Thanks for the help guys!!

I know, I would love too... But was told from Savvy that they cancelled my order (ordered when it said on back order) because they dont know when theyre going to be manufactured again... Is there another vendor that I can get the Vanco from?

nope. Vanco sells them...Savvy is a vendor for them...so if you can't find it from them, you're SOL.

Won't do any good. I'm in the process of revamping the kits and they aren't in production until that is done. I'm working on it.

Lol okay... Do you have a tenetive schedule? Need to replace pads soon, and wanted to go ahead and just replace everything down there since I'm running 35's now. Or is it top secret?

IIRC the Black Magic pads are the same that come in the Vanco kit.

Right, but I don't want to purchase the pads alone if I want the whole kit that come with them.

Tentatively early to mid summer. We are in the process of getting some things cast so most of the process is out of our hands and we are not in full control of the time frames.

Baah.. Wanted before my wheeling trip in April. Should I just go ahead and place the pads, and wait for the Vanco to come back... Or just go ahead and replace at least the rotors as well?

It depends on the condition of your current rotors. If they aren't deeply grooved, and or have a ridge along the outer edge, no need to replace them.

I haven't taken too close of a look, I don't believe they're too bad. I really just wanted a whole upgraded brake system because last time I went crawling downhill I couldn't stop and that was very scary! It was like controlled falling!

no more funky bracket? AEV has a kit but it looks like it was discontinued when they discontinued all the TJ products.

Obviously you're OK with putting new pads on used rotors. I've been doing it for years. In your opinion, though, do you think new pads bed better on a fresh surface? As in running one fast final cut on the lathe, or at least scuffing them up? ( I do a pretty good job of "mildly resurfacing" rotors with a scotchbrite Roloc on the angled die grinder).

I'm sure you know where I'm going with this, but i thought your opinion on this might be of value to others as well, since the OP is considering doing just this.

Funky bracket? That bracket is a machined piece of art and is necessary. I believe what Blaine is referring to are the knuckles they send out.

It's only funky to you. To the rest of the folks that own it, it is a fine piece of machine work that has not failed or had an issue one single time and that is as designed.

We've had folks have unitbearings fail and break the caliper saddle off of the bracket with no failure of the bracket.

We've had folks continue to drive with a broken axle and spit the knuckle off which then got tangled up in the axle which broke the steering arm off the front of the knuckle with no ill effect on the bracket.

We've had folks break axles, keep driving and grind the crap out of the bracket and it still didn't fail.

We have well over 3000 of those in use without a single failure, issue, or warranty of any kind whatsoever.

Bottom line, we both know that if it were a product designed by anyone else, you've never mention it or give it a second thought.

BTW- you can only have something if it's not discontinued at which point it becomes, they had.

Yes on the knuckles which will be designed without the need for an adapter bracket by adding more material around the bosses that can be machined to the heights and hole locations needed for the two most common calipers we use.

The new knuckles were taking longer than anticipated, so they did a run of the old design. Not sure if they have any in stock still or not, might want to call Savvy or Vanco and find out.
