Want Advice On Cleaning Jeep Seats

I just bought a 2000 Sahara Edition TJ, 2-inch body lift, 31.5 tires, nice stereo (although the amp and speakers take up what little space there is behind the rear seat), all at an unbelievably low price. It needed $500 in body work, and a couple new ball joints (yes I replaced them all) as well as the u-joints (greasable) and the steering stabilizer. The problem is the original owner was a heavy smoker and a bit of a slob. I was thinking of taking off the seat covers and either washing them in a commercial washing machine, or having them dry-cleaned. Any advice?

ok

Dry cleaning and industrial washing machine may not take out 5 or 6 years of smoking may take a couple of cycles. I would say go with taking off the old covers and putting on new ones.

Hang the freakin' seat covers up in the car wash and spray those bad boys down with the wand. No way the smell will last through that.

I've spilled beer, blood, jagermeister...hell I've had a 170 pound dead Doe in the back of my Jeep, legs sticking out, on the seat!, and got the smell out. (She was a beauty, and tasted good too!)

Good luck.

Our Rottweiler bled from a bad cut, all over the back of our Rubi, and I went to the dollar store, and bought some carpet cleaner foam, and of course took the carpeting out of the Jeep. Using the carpet foam, and a stiff brush, was able to get all the blood out of the carpet. I also used a hose, with good pressure, and rinsed it all out, hung it all to dry in the sun, and good as new.

I take my seats and carpet completely out and shampoo them with a steam cleaner. Washing just the covers will not get the smell out if it's in the cushion. Granted, I don't smoke, but it's gotten the trail dust out.

Just make sure to use only mild soap solutions as too much soap is nearly impossible to wash out and the dried soap will turn into the worst dirt-magnet imaginable. For the odor, try spraying the interior with liberal amounts of Febreeze. If that doesn't work, go to a pet store for some of that one-drop pet deodorizer stuff which is amazing. It doesn't mask odors, it somehow totally neutralizes them.

Trust me, febreeze will only make the smell worse, and all it does is cover up the smell for a short period of time. I love how people try to cover up the smell of smoking certain things...with it. Only makes it worse. Wash it very well, if not just toss them and get new ones that havent been used by a total slob. You do know your sitting on his dead skin cells and no telling what else...

If he smoked in the jeep then might want to steamclean the carpet and really clean the dash. I dont smoke in my jeep or let people smoke in my jeep, for the fact it never seems to leave the vehicle. Tar gets all over the place, iv seen computer monitors almost black because of all the tar on them. They were white at one period in time.

Hey JCS05Rubi, Just try using a wet rag and a little bit of carpet cleaner. They normally come out without using any cleaner.

New Seats! Thats the answer you need!

:>)!

But seriously it depends whats wrong if you really wants to get at it take the fabric off the seats them selves take out all the staples then get down on your knees and scrub them. I had a car with frosty on the seats and i tried everything then i heard about this and worked great. I just suggest that you know how the seats are attached so you know how to reattach them again! Also Make sure you can really get the stain about before going through all this.
