Anyone running warn front or rear bumpers? Purchased these a few months ago, literally put 500 miles on my Rubi since these were installed and it's garage kept. Don't know how or why these bumpers are already rusting?
Quadratec said they'd take them back - thinking of going JCR front and rear. Really bummed out I spent all day installing the rear with tire carrier to have these issues with essentially zero use.
Yes i have them both on my other 98 tj. Both have started to rust by the "w" cutouts in the rear. The front is a little better but still has rust when its supposed to be powder coated. Wish i had my reciepts but ill just have to have them power coated by a real shop instead of their paint that they call powder coat.
Waiting for quadratec to get back to me - going to push to return these and get the JCR bumpers. Sucks because I really liked the look of these, will maybe go back to a slim bumper on the back and larger tire carrier on the door vs. tire carrier on bumper.
Mostly bummed because this rear bumper is a massive pain to install - last thing I want to do right now is drop the tank AGAIN because of Warn manufacturing a subpar product. Insane that my Rubi is garaged and this is happening.
I've read way more rust complaints for JCR than Warn. I have Warn front and rear. After two years there is some minor rusting in the nooks and crannies where powder coating is hard to get to. I hit it with Rustoleum semi gloss black.
My rear bumper sucks. The front one is fine. My Jeep is more of a "mall crawler" but has top grade components. Gears, 35s, Warn winch, etc... I bought it this way. It has always been a garage queen and has 26K miles on it. The rear Warn Bumper is rusting on the inside, complete crap and has NEVER seen bad weather.
One way to slow this problem down. Would be don't order this already power coated, Get them in bare steel if you can. Then have your local power coater do them.I have noticed parts I have bought coated the edges the powder will pop off first this is account they don't knock off the skim coat after they are laser cut and powder over this. Before I take a new part to be coated I go over the edges with sand paper or a 3m pad.And ask what the process is ,how they powder parts, is there uv protection .I have had trail and error with this to find a Great place to do my parts Just my .02
They're steel and if they get nicked or there's a little bare spot from the painter accidentally missing a spot, they're going to rust. Just brush the spot with a wire brush and hit it with a little Rustoleum paint. Not to mention rocks, sand, etc. from the road can fly up and nick the paint and cause the steel to rust where it was nicked.
It's not a big deal, just go buy a little wire brush and a can of Rustoleum or Krylon satin black paint and touch them up. It nearly took more time to post a complaint here about it than it would have to fix/touch up that tiny rusty spot.
Warn is known for their good quality, it's not like this is a normal issue for their products.
And powder coating something isn't going to prevent nicks and rust either. I have to touch up my powder coated parts just as much as I do my painted parts. In fact, my powder coated parts are probably at least half covered in touch-up Rustoleum paint by now.
Jerry, the reason I am pissed is because the rust is on the inside of the cut out Ws. The outside is easy to maintain.
And... I am one lucky guy.... My Fatherinlaw is my local powder coater. He has been in that business for many many years.

That LITTLE bit of rust and you want to get rid of them? I had to look and make sure this wasn't the JK mall crawling section. I never understood the whole garage kept thing, it's not like it's a toaster or refrigerator. You drive it, paint gets chipped, environmental factors occur an oxidation occurs...deal with it. Or you can just keep it in the garage. Like Jerry said, clean it paint it and quit fussing over it.
X2. I can see a BMW or Cadillac owner wringing his hands over a little rust as they have likely never done any real work on their cars or sprayed any Rustoleum touch-up paint. But come on, not on a Jeep where the owner has installed cool off-road parts... at least not those who actually take their Jeeps offroad where stuff can get damaged and needs the occasional touch-up. I guess I could understand it with a strictly show-Jeep owner but...
I agree with you guys - I'm not building a show car. But come on - since I bought my Rubi in January I've poured $10K+ in top parts with no issues. The reason the Rubi sits in a garage is I live in NYC and LA, I bought this as a weekend car I keep at my parents.
What I'm upset about is the fact my Rubi has seen rain once with the warm bumpers on and these issues are happening - I don't daily drive it and it's not in snow or rain. Front and rear bumpers should not be rusting after 3-400 miles in dry weather and one day of rain.
I get it - sand it or paint it myself and call it a day. But what's the point of spending all this $ on parts that aren't correctly coated or manufactured? If the concept for warn bumpers is you need to retouch them yourself every few weeks they should not charge so much - could have gotten barricade front and rear bumpers for 1/4 the cost.

Odds are nearly any branded powder coated product exposed to the environment (garaged or not) is going to have some rust. Best to stay on top of the situation by light sanding and rattle can the issue away.
You do have a valid point. I had to scrape the inside and file the " W " apon repainting.
That said, the bumpers are rather robust in build quality and should last for many years.
