Washing - Winter Salt & Grime - 97 TJ

First winter with the new to me TJ and was wondering what other northerners do about salt and road grime.

The only thing Michigan apparently has cash for is road salt, because it's everywhere. I have a soft top with 1/2 doors, and wanted to spray the thing off, but I'm afraid of blowing water into the Jeep.

Just looking for recommendations to get the filth off. I was thinking of the self wash and just using low pressure water to clear it off. Any suggestions?

I live in Chicago- lots of salt here, too.

I usually just take 15 minutes or so, once a week, and go into a self-use car wash. I use just water to spray off all the gunk high pressure is ok. This will cost like $3 bucks.

It is also wise to consider completely washing it legit.. then giving it a good wax.

But remember- do not go through ANY sort of automatic car was if you have a soft top. The chemicals in the soap and or wax they use damages the soft top fabric.

Just wash it off with a hose, a little water inside isnt gonna kill your jeep

I live in upstate NY where they have an equally large budget for salt and sand. Once a week or so, I too just go to a self-serve car wash with a roll of quarters and have at it. It's about all you can do, short of not driving it. And what's the fun in that?

Same story here in Canada. After a weekend of playing in the snow and crud that gets on it from getting to the snow, I spend 3-4 bucks at the carwash and give the undercarriage a good blasting.

I can not say why I have been lucky-purchased my '04 in Nov'04 with soft top. And in the winter go through the car wash 2-3 times a week. Yes I like my Jeep clean but the car wash I use also has an under-body spray/wash for the salt. My soft top is fine. This is not a cheap car wash though the basic wash is like $7 but the level with the under-body starts at $12 and goes to about $20. The "chain" is in INDY, FT Wayne, and South Bend I know for sure. Maybe Geoff will weigh in from BESTOP opinion of the car wash on soft tops?

Someone suggested (jk'n) parking over a sprinkler set up in your driveway a couple times a week. A high powered (50 ft coverage) rotating one would obviously be the best
