Waterproofing seats

So i decided to be a bonehead last night and leave my doors off, not expecting rain. It poured and i got soaked on my ride to work this morning. I know that the simple solution would have been to look at the weather and put my doors back on but it got me thinking....I used to work at a sports store and we sold a waterproofing spray. I was wondering if anybody has ever tried to spray something like this on their seats and whether or not it would work.

If it doesn't work neoprene seat covers are supposed to displace a bit of water.

those sprays are more of a water repellent, and at best you would need to re-apply it every so often.

i dont think that the spray would hold up to a bunch of sitting water that would collect on your seats.

but give it a shot, let us know how it turns out.

scotch guard. works great, we use it for all the seating in my companies vans, water and oil just bead off like water on a windshield. and if it gets stained it is much less of a hassle to remove it.

Can you use scotch guard on neoprene seat covers? I have them in my jeep and had VERY wet seats after my jeep sat in the rain all day with a bikini top on it.

i wasn't such a fan of neoprene seats. i think they got even wetter in the rain, and held it longer than factory seats

...a diaper keeps water out as well as in... might work. heh heh

Neoprene is not so much waterproof as it's job is to actually absorb water and hold it so it attains body temp and insulates in that way (wetsuits are "wet" for that reason). Truly waterproof seats would most likely be slippery or sweaty... waterproofing is tough with open weave materials... not sure what the answer is.

the scotch guard works great on cloth seats, 2 or 3 coats will do the job.
