Waterpump Replacement

My waterpump is bad on my 05 TJ and I am trying to find out which brand aftermarket replacement pump actually fits. Some of the user reviews on the pumps from Advance Auto say the pulley rubs...so just wondering if anyone has had good luck with a specific brand?

I just did it on my 97 last week lol. I bought the 25$ one from orieleys auto parts and havnt had any problems out of it yet lol. There's a high flow wp in the 4wd and Quadratec catalogs I wouldn't mind having but it like 125$ lol. Got and specific questions about doing it, I can help you out. As far as the part itself just get a decent warranty. I'll post a link after this to the pump I got. Good luck to ya

Saw the same thing on the advance auto website. I just replaced mine Friday night with the Duralast from autozone. Everyrhing went good. Didn't hav time to order one and the "stealer" wanted $200 for a Chrysler pump.

My friend works at a stealer and got me his discount so I saved some moneys on a OE pump always helps to know someone. 25 sounds real cheap for a water pump.

That's what I thought too. It's an oe remanufactured with a limited lifetime warranty so I won't complain. Works fine so far

I just put the same waterpump on from oreillys on monday. Working good so far. Hardest part was getting the old heater fitting out.

I would NEVER use a store brand water pump from Autozone, Kragen's, Pep Boys, etc. as they are cheaply made. For critical components like the water pump, I'll only use OE quality which costs a little more but its better quality is more than worth it.

Don't let the lifetime warranty of the store brand convince you it must have good quality to have that lifetime warranty, nothing could be further from the truth. That "lifetime warranty" is just because they don't believe many people own their vehicles long enough after replacing the water pump for that to be much of an expense for them from people coming in for a warranty replacement.

I'll go cheap on seat covers, valve stem caps, tail light lenses, radio knobs, steering wheel covers, floor mats, etc. but never will I do that with the water pump, starter motor, alternator, etc. which will leave me stranded if they go bad.

Absolutely!

Not only can a poor quality part leave you stranded, you have to put on the new one!

Most of the time when you return a defective part for the 3nd time they refuse to exchange it - they say it's "something you are doing to ruin it."

It's usually only 5 - 10% difference in price between quality and junk.

I was in a bind and need one right away. No time to order so the Duralast fit the bill and went together smoothly.

I've always trusted orieleys and never had to warranty a part cuz I've never had one go out on me. OE parts come from Japan or china, just like the ones that are 100$ cheaper from an auto part store. Just because Chrysler put their name on it and jacks up the price doesn't make it any better

I just rebuilt by engine a few hundred miles ago. I replaced my water pump with a new Airtex pump. It was on clearance for $16 at RockAuto but it looks like theyre all gone. Pulley didnt rub or anything like that, all is good so far.

Edit: And the box says it has a lifetime warranty.

Ac delco or Cardone are both good choices. Never have fitment issues with them. Stay away from Fenco brand. Lots of issues with those.
