Weight Loss

So here's an interesting article Less is more for off-road Jeep Stitch enthusiasts | The Detroit News

If the link doesn't work here is the summation... Jeep removed about 1100 pounds from the stock 2013 Rubicon (not that I think I can lose 1100 pounds from the TJ) and found not only that the "new" design had a better power to weight ratio than the grand Cherokee SRT but it cleared 35" tires with no lift kit... That got a young 4 banger TJ owner like myself thinking about shaving a few pounds and what can be achieved through it I mean after all 143 or whatever amount of horsepower comes standard with the 2.4L isn't that terrible in smaller vehicles with smaller tires etc. so I guess there's no question here really just thoughts... Weigh in... Or don't... Just something to think about.

Sometimes I'll take my spare off, backseat, and doors and that's probably closer to a couple hundred pounds at least and the only thing I notice is the rear end jumping around more on railroad crossings and crappy roads. I genuinely can't imagine anywhere else you could shave a significant amount of weight on a TJ... Small fuel cell to replace the tank perhaps?

I wouldn't want to mess with that honestly I wouldn't want to mess with anything that would alter the functionality of the vehicle but it seems the seats could be swapped out for something lighter? As well as fiberglass body panels or maybe the transmission skid plate could be shortened or lightened all hypothetical of course but certainly brings to light a more interesting route than everyone trying to bolt on this and turbo that/ engine swaps.
