Well, here goes nothing, I bought a D44

Drove out today and bought a 2000 TJ D44. Has newer (6000 mi) 4.10 Yukon ring and pinion, pinion seal. Was trussed for a four link but retained all the factory TJ mounts. said he put the truss on with the track bar still in place so he knows it will clear.

He drove it up until today and dropped it this morning and I had it in my possession about 4 hours later.

So the concerns I have are should I leave the truss? will there be clearance issues during articulation of stock control arms? and the truss covers the vent hole where the brake line tee and vent tube went so he ran the vent up the truss and tapped it up there. I can mount my tee up on the truss and get right length brake lines or ?

he ran the 4 link for about a year so I am assuming the welds are good, but they are far from factory welds. I am debating leaving it or torching it off and grinding the welds down back to a factory d44.

any other pointers as i dive into this? I took some picks as it sits now, anything look out of the ordinary?

i know i will probably get a "duh!" for a reply, but you know that if you don't have 4.10 gears in front, you should stay on 2wd till then. i know almost everyone knows that but i saw that happen in front of me just 5 min after install

How much lift do you have because that truss looks like its going to make contact with something...

I say leave the truss. I got a truss on mine and it doesn't hit anything and I have less lift. The truss will only help the strength and if you ever upgrade to a triangulated 4 link you half way there.

I agree with you, I dont want to go backwards on it at all if its a bit tougher trussed. wasnt sure if I had to run four link to keep the truss out of the way of anything. I guess I'll know more when I get in underneath it.

Get some pics up when it's done. I've been looking for a 44 for a while now, they are either too expensive or not to be found in my area.

I lucked out. 2000 D44 off a TJ already, gearing matched my jeep and was in-state (five hour drive in-state but still not crazy far) for 600.00

I started a thread over in the builders side for posterity of the swap

Looking for swap info for my D44
