The only major things I have herd about the 2000 model is the heads cracking, due to poor materials used in the design, thats the only thing I herd bad about them, I recently just purchased a 2000 wrangler also =) Welcome!

Most people I see starting out do a 2inch budget boost, they cost anywhere from 100-300, or a full 2 inch suspension kit would be around 500-900 some people like OME and BDS I have seen. Good luck again!

Only if yours actually develops a problem. Why fix what isn't broken?

BTW: I think an XJ Cherokee makes a fantastic starter Jeep. They are much easier to live with due to having more passenger room and lots more cargo room. Once you know you want to remain in the hobby, you can switch to a TJ. That's what I did, anyway.

My first Jeep:

Not all of the 99-01 cylinder heads crack. check the oil fill cap and ask the owner if its lost any coolant. Check for signs of coolant mixing with the oil

I bought my 4 cylinder 2000 TJ in September of 2011 and the only problem I have is an exhaust leak at the manifold. Well, that and not enough time to enjoy it!

I had a 95 XJ before I got my wrangler. It was totaled after getting T-boned, and I bought my TJ with the insurance check. Now I am thinking about getting another XJ to haul the dogs around.

I didn't see if you said it or not, but did you get the 6cyl or 4cyl?

I used to own a 1998 Cherokee Classic Up Country. It had leather heated seats too. Anyone remember that trim level?

I was actually more like a Rubi as it had skid plates and a 1" lift if I recall.

Special ordered it.

Wheel it before you mod it. that way, you know what you want/need.

Btw, I loved the two brand new Cherokees I have owned! Maybe some of my favorite vehicles. Loved the simple design. The back doors were a bit narrow for car seats though. Towed a 20 ft boat everywhere with them too.
