What 6" flare?

Hey guys,

I need to get some new flares for the TJ but am having issues making the decision.

We're running AEV pintler rims with a 32" KM2 tire, 2.5" OME lift, 6" flares seem a perfect width.

I need full coverage when viewed from the rear of the vehicle, so Metalcloak isn't an option. Annoying, as I really like their products (they suggested an 8" flare which doesn't do anything for me).

Bushwacker Flat Flares would do the job

MCE 6" flares look pretty good but I'm of two minds about the look of the flat fender from the front with a 6" width. Plus with only a 32" tire is the flat fender look going to make the tires appear too small?

The other option is to stay with the traditional type of OEM flare at a 6" width, it's probably the cheapest option too.

Is there anything I'm missing out in the marketplace?

I'm in Australia and once a car is over 5 years old you need to get an inspection done each year for registration.

It's fairly laid back (lights, horn, wipers and braking test), but one thing they pick on is full tire coverage when looking along the side of the car from the rear of the vehicle.

I've currently got cheap ebay 6" pocket flares on it but they're slowly cracking up and falling apart, so after something of better quality.

when I picked up my TJ it had factory flares & 33x12.5 tires so there was about 3 or more inches of tire sticking out. I loved the look but living in PA I had the same coverage issue you have.

So I swapped them for a set of factory style 7 inch flares & although they did the job I hated the way it looked more that I can possibly describe:

So off they came to be replaced by 6 inch Bushwhacker pocket flare knock-offs by Rugged Ridge (half the price of Bushwhacker). I know a lot of people don't like the look of these but I love'm & they're every bit as thick & sturdy as the stock ones I removed:

There's no shortage of companies that make these so you may have a bad set... & I think for the purposes you described they'd work fine.

Edit: in terms of durability, I didn't have these on for a month when I went into a deep trench at an odd angle & my front passenger tire mashed my fender lip flat & pulled the flare an inch or more out; upon inspection what I noticed was while the metal fender was bent to shit the bolts held the flare on & the flare itself was straight & unscathed, not a crack or scratch. I removed it, hammered the fender back into shape & reattached the flare.

By the way this is how I learned what a bump stop extension was & that I didn't have them :D
