what a night...

i was on my way home from work..it was about 11pm and i feel this odd vibration going about 65 mph. i pull over at a nearby parkinglot to check it out and i dont see anything out of the ordinary. i pull out of the parkinglot and i hear this aweful grindinging noise and my jeep drops down. my rear passenger wheel fell off and started rolling down the road...what a great way to end my night

i ended up pulling 1 lug off of each wheel till i got home. luckily the drum wasnt too torn up. just a scratches.

i have no clue as to how it came off...the studs were "adjustable" not punched in. i was able to tighten them with a 3/4 wrench...

im so glad i pulled over and didnt have time to get on the freeway...that could have been bad.

but at the same time maybe the studs were screwed a bit more in (towards the breaks) and when i tightened the lugs they didnt go on as much as they normally should. but i know lugs dont just fall off either..

Seems like I've noticed that also? My kids wheel fell of his car a couple months ago also.

Recently had my wheels rotated. Better check the lug nuts before I take off this morning. Bad voodoo or mojo going around, or something!!

I use a torque wrench on mine, 100 ft lbs is good for 1/2" TJ lugs. I use Gorilla security lug nuts on my wheels, they were about $45 but all lugs use the special gorilla socket:

I had a friend that had a wheel come off on the highway... I guess he was absent on lug nut day... Made almost a good 5" flat spot on his brake disk...

Are these OEM wheels or add-ons? My son had a wheel fall off his jeep once - turned out, with the custom wheels he had, you HAVE to make sure the lugs are seated properly. They will tighten down if you don't have them centered in the indentation, but they will come loose. I blamed it on the one wheel I let him tighten, BTW.

did you use a air ratchet or a air impact? i dont think theres a air ratchet thats gonna lay down 100 lbs of torque..(could be wrong tho) I all ways use a torque stick or torque wrench.....
