They are for the original factory soft top hardware (frame). If you have a soft top, it may be an aftermarket top like the Bestop Supertop that I have.

Don't worry. They will still be on Jeeps that came from factory with hardtops just in case you upgrade late. yes, a soft top is an upgrade over a hardtop

Doesn't exist. the system isn't designed that way.

You can run a hard top OR a soft top OR a bikini top. It has to do with the header on the windshield. They all mount in the same place, and the bikini needs a bolt on (or screw in) header channel. You can't install the soft top or hard top with the bikini header channel in place...

Can others confirm this because I was reading in a thread that the sw1 can be worn under a hardtop. Because the mounting does not use the windshield channel

Not familiar with an sw1 but what he said is correct for the typical soft/bikini/safari top that mounts to the windshield. One or the other.

But I wouldn't think many people would be taking a hardtop on and off so frequently that they needed a bikini under it?

You can use your soft top with Full doors. You don't have to have half doors with soft upper.

And I thought he was talking about the two holes in the rollbar? I've been wondering what those are for for the past 10 years now...

sw1 = ????

I own a whole gamete of top options, and why you'd want to a bikini top under the hard top I have no freaking clue. at all.

Ummm well it's a convenience type of thing instead of taking off a top and puttin another top on you just put one top on and leave the other it's not like it's in the way of anything above your head. It's the difference of about ten minutes I'd say

I checked out the SW1. Looks like a trade off to me. You can leave it on, but it looks like a royal pain in the booty to take off and put back on if you ever want to be completely topless. It would save you from having to buy and put on/take off the windshield header to go between tops. I run a safari top which will protect from light rain. Looks like the SW1 is only a sun shade. But if you want to leave a top on you are going to have to get one like that which doesn't use a windshield header.

Doesn't it just mount using bungee balls and a strap or two. I know the bestop bikini top that covers just my front is such a pain to take on And off Velcro that's hardly
Wide enough to fit the windshield header that has to be screwed down and all the straps that can only be tightened so much. I'm just waiting for winter to roll in so I can hard top it

I would imagine that bikini installed inside the hard top would flap like crazy with the window down and drive you nuts, if not cause cosmetic damage to the inside of the top.

Besides....I don't know about you, but I don't want to be taking my 200+lb hard top on/off a lot. Two times a year is enough for me. And spending 10 minutes two times a year to install a separate top isn't a convenience problem.

My bestop safari is pretty easy. I use the soft top door surrounds which means I don't fool with any velcro.

I take the top down, and completely off and store it hanging in the garage around late March. About June I put the windshield header on and install the safari because its getting hot in the direct sun. I don't take the windshield header off until about October when I put my top back on.

So for me, top down once, header on once, header off once, top up once.

I could see where it would be more of a pain if you were going back and forth a lot from a bikini to a hard or soft top. But as far as taking the bikini/safari itself on and off vs. the SW1 on and off, the SW1 looks like the bigger pain.
