All the Pentastars. Never was a Chrysler fan. Or an AMC fan. So, I have a Chrysler with an AMC engine.
The last good Jeeps were produced in 1971.
My TJ is a nice car, though.

I don't like the cheap gutless 4.0! After all these years they could have put a better engine in the truck. Its pretty bad when you can swap a 5.3L V8 into the jeep and get several more miles to the gallon, and have a lot more power.
I don't like the D44 axles on my Rubicon either. Jeep should have installed real D44 axles instead of the weak lookalikes.

I was just discussing this same point with my dad. My '01 Silverado 2500 6.0 was 300 HP and got 18-22 MPG.
My jeep weighs 2.000 less and half the horsepower......gets 14 MPG.

its called aerodynamics. your truck was designed to get the best mpg possible. where the jeep is more like a washing machine with the door open. if you don't like the engine don't buy a jeep.

Yea my 99 5.3 silvy single cab step side 4x4 would scrape into the 20's but the average mpg isn't much better than my TJ's on 31's. It just seems a lot better because the tank is bigger and the gas gauge is accurate

That's about right. Even a pickup has better aerodynamics, I think. (And better with its tailgate closed--believe it or not!)

I love the straight six. Good torque, and I didn't buy it for street racing anyway.

I call bs on the whole aerodynamics thing cause some cj5's were known to get close to 30, Ive heard of wranglers with v8 swaps getting 25ish mpg, and the euro model with a diesel gets in the 30's.

The real reason is the fact that the i6 is not the most effecient engine out and the 2.5L lacks the horsepower and torque. If you notice the jku gets 16-21mpg stock and its bigger and heavier than the tj cause of the more effecient engines.

I get 23 on a bad day with 31's and the axles geared to high. Dont drive it like a racecar.

Your clueless. The engine is underpowered and labors under the load. There comes a point when a larger engine is more efficient.

defiantly a larger engine would be a tremendous help.
but to adviocate for the 4.0L in the REGULAR cherokees awesome imo. never had a lack of power even with a 4.5" lift 32" superswamper tsl, and pulling a grand am on a dolly up hill. only problem i ever had was lack of vehicle weight.

its aerodynamics, type of trans, and gears imo.

Only thing I didn't like are the milk jugs. The rest is makes us love the TJ. I love the exterior design. Its the only vehicle that looks good dirty!

I love the simple cheap interior its perfect for me for the topless experience in case it rains when my top is off I'm like oh well. If I had the new JK it will give me OCD probably lol I would be like oh no my leather or keeping that aluminum trimming clean and trying to keep the dust off the dash etc when having the top n doors off.

I love the tractor non-car like 4.0, its very reliable, torqie, bulletproof, long lasting and the reason why we would refer to what we drive as a Jeep not a car or truck

Taken from Wiki:

"The 4.0 is one of AMC's best-known engines. It was one of four AMC engines kept in production when Chrysler bought AMC in 1987. Chrysler engineers continued to refine the engine to reduce noise, vibration, and harshness. The last in the line of the AMC inline sixes, the 4.0 is regarded as one of the best 4x4 off-road engines. The engine is known for longevity and to go more than 300,000 miles (482,803 km) without rebuilding."

The crappy stock tail lights..... went through the car wash and it snapped off completely and only dangling by its wire harness so I disconnected it and got home and the wire fell in the small hole of the body so I spent half an hour fishing out the short wire and pulling it through the small hole
