What did you give up to drive a Wrangler?

Looking at the posts by JonBoy13 (“Turned in my man card as well as SAC today”) and The Lucky One (“I’m so glad I bought my Jeep”) just reminded me of the various vehicles I’ve given up over the years for different reasons, and why I always come back to (real) JEEP (meaning CJ-JK). Thought I’d post a thread “What did you give up to drive a Wrangler” In my case, we need the garage space and to save some insurance money so I gave up a 1993 GMC Sierra Z71, a Kawasaki KLR650, and ultimately, this, my perfect 2004 Corvette:

I don't regret it at all!

Good one!

I gave up a Subaru Outback wagon (lezmobile as the 'net says). It was awesome in the snow and got good gas mileage and had more creature comforts than the Jeep. I regret nothing.

Well I started with

Wife blew the head gasket so I put another $2k into performance parts and built her up. At final was pushing 357 rwhp (increase from 241). Had 127,000 miles on it. Only 858 Purple Convertibles were made in 95-96 of that color. Lt1/Auto (with 3600 stall)/3.23 rears.

Getting old and my back is hurting more and more so was making it difficult to get in and out. Lost oil pressure one day and determined a Cam Bearing had gone out. Didn't feel like tearing into the motor again. Traded it for:

96 w/5speed. Designed the bed to be a "Overnighter". Had dual batteries and a mattress with stereo/inverter in the back. Transmission started going out and was quoted 2K to rebuild it. The day I was scheduling an Appt for a transmission:

Popped up on Craiglist for $3500. Sold the HB for $1500 and counting the $2k I needed to fix the HB, I broke even and got a vehicle I ORIGINALLY wanted when I joined the Navy 24 years ago lol.

MUCH easier to work on than the Hardbody and way more pulling power.

Got rid of a '99 Dodge ram 1500 pickup that was threatening to bankrupt me. I git a like-new '06 TJ with 36k miles. It fits in my garage and goes anywhere the Ram would go. Better gas mileage and about the same ride.

I didnt really give anything up to get my wrangler...at the time, i had a 2003 R6 and a daily driver 1990 honda civic. Traded the civic in for the jeep. Eventually i sold the bike for a new "toy", though.

Then as of December of 2012 it came down to "do i keep the toy, get another dd, and sell the jeep...or do i sell the toy"

Toy was the one to go...i also now have another dd so i can keep my jeep all nice and only take it out on nice days and for wheeling

Toy - 1991 Mustang GT with 347 stroker (475hp and 540tq to the wheels at 5500 feet)

I really do miss my car, though...i dont regret it, but man was that a great car and OMG what a sound.

Sometimes I think miss a CJ-7 or Jeepster Commando, I used to own, but then I realize the LJ is better in every way

Started with a Yamaha warrior traded that for a 89 Cherokee, sold that for 2200 and bought a 97 Camaro, sold that for 3000, bought a dodge Durango for 900 dollars replaced the leaky torque converter (cost me 60 bucks) sold it for 3500, bought my 88 2 years ago for 3000 my goal was to trade up or sell to buy a wrangler always wanted one ever since I was 6 at the age of 19 I finally accomplished my goal though right after I got it even with it being a 4 cylinder I rebuilt the motor for 500 dollars and 2 years later im still driving it and im loving it, I'm very happy with it, im surprised I could find an 88 yj here in Indiana without hardly any rust

I wear the pants in my house when it comes to the vehicle I drive. But that is the only thing I have a say in.

So far I have given up a bunch of knuckle skin and blood, plenty of acetylene/oxygen, a few pounds of mig wire, a few Saturdays, a few drill bits, plenty of cut off wheels, lots of Rolling Rocks, more hard earned cash than I wish to keep track of, and some sanity.

Still not ready to be road worthy. I guess it's a Jeep thing!

VERY nice. I miss my camaro too but things change. I seen mine in town about a month ago . Apparently he strokked it and added better things to it. Damn it MOVED haha.

O well like someone said the day I bought my YJ:

Yours may go anywhere fast but mine goes EVERYWHERE slow.

It would be awful hard to give up that beautiful red Corvette in the first post. I sold my modified XJ that I'd had for several years and a '71 Jeepster Commando project I had started for my Rubicon LJ. I'm really I glad I made the move and love driving the LJ on trails.

'88 XJ, 6 inches lift, 33's ARBs front and rear, Dana 44 rear axle:
