Ha, my wife had knee surgery and has been home all month. She got jiggy with the computer and she bought a '91YJ Sahara, then saw the TJ a week later and bought it too. What the heck, two are better than one! Tell ya what though, 4.0 manual Saharas are a somewhat rare commodity, you should get a pretty decent price for it. In the meantime i'll try to hide yours from my wife, I don't know what we'd do with three! :-)
Hey guys, I've got a 98 Sahara in great condition with both soft and hard tops. 5spd, a/c, only 106k adult driven miles. Never off roading or abused. Untouched, all stock. Help!
I posted this on the "98 TJ" thread, but it works well on this one too. I've been casually looking for a TJ for quite some time, and it's my experience that finding one with the 4.0/automatic, and under 100K miles is virtually impossible. If you find one around 100K, they'll want around $10K for it. The Sahara package/air doesn't seem to make much difference, nor do any modifications that might have been made. It's my opinion that the value of a host of mods is negated by the perception that anyone who needs long-arm lifts, winches, 37's, etc. has probably beat hell out of it off the road.
And of course, the biggie is rust. If it has rust, you can lower that by a minimum of $2K and possibly more. Nobody wants a rust bucket....and believe me, what the OWNER thinks is significant rust is almost never what the prospective buyer considers significant rust.
In Arizona with current mileage about $7500. If it has some rust issues then it's very doubtful that anybody in AZ would buy it, because there are plenty of them out here with no rust!
Yeah, same reasoning in Georgia too. We have a lot of rain and moisture, but we dont salt the roads here. Cars have to be a lot older than a 98 for rust to normally be a concern, so a rusty 98 would go unsold for a long, long time unless it was priced seriously under-market.
I think that's probably a different view from a lot of Northern states where, because of salty roads, ALL cars have rust, just different levels of rust.
