What do you think

I want to make some rock sliders. But the only thing i can find at work is 1/4 aluminum 6061 T6. Im really not sure if it will hold up but it would be really good for weight reduction. also i could acid and alodine this thing and it would pretty much last forever without corrosion. I would like to have a good hard steel plate there myself. anyways just looking for some feedback.

I would think that would be ok material considering that is the same material that Savvy Offroad uses. Take a look at there stuff for ideas. All I ever hear about them are good things.

hmmm they look good but im not sure what the chromoly part of them is all about maybe a coating. But they do have a big solid looking side step portion that may give them the strength. something to think about thou. I was thinking this or just adding a bar on my stock rubicon rock guards i know they are only 1/8 but its free. unless there is a way to reinforce them i was thinking about adding a piece of stainless behind the original but i would have to fill the original holes up with weld and redrill the holes back through. the holes would only shift about .050 thou or so depending on the sheet metal i used on the inside. I think i just convinced myslef what im going to do.

I believe that the chromoly part was the actual slider (the side step portion.) If you look at the other skids and such that they offer, they are all also made out of aluminum. I have heard of a few WF members that run their products and said that the aluminum held up as well as steel on the trails. Just something to consider with the aluminum though.
