I'm considering selling my LJ. I won't get into all the reasons why at this time, but one thing is I need a truck.
Based on the information in my sig, what do you all think would be a fair asking price? Not sure yet if I'll sell it outright or try to trade straight up for a pickup at a dealership. (I am not going to make any payments or pay extra for the truck.) I may go the trade route so I'm not going through a period without a vehicle - I can't do that. I know a dealer will try to gyp me, and if so, I may have to go another route. It seems like most '06 LJs I've seen on line are going for anywhere from 12K to 18K - non Rubicon. This needs to get done ASAP.
umm I can offer you 5 dollars that is what is in my pocket. Umm i would think more towards the 17ish side. You have a nice setup there. May i ask why you need a truck? If you need to haul stuff can't you do it with a trailer? Would be easier then getting rid of your truck along with the hrut that comes with it.
Well, for one thing I have no room for a trailer at my house - narrow driveway and one car garage, which my wife claims for her car. I do a lot of landscaping and gardening projects, and want to start my side business back up. I've always had pickups until the Jeep, and as much as I love the Jeep, it just isn't as practical for what I really need - hauling topsoil, mulch etc. and besides - it's just a thing. (A [Jeep] thing that keeps costing me money because of my modification addiction.) In short - the pickup can make me money, the Jeep is fun, but costs me money.
I checked out kbb.com and it looks like I'm at about 13,000 for what the dealer might offer on a trade. For that I should be able to get a 2002 to 2004 Ram 1500 4x4 with around 50-70k miles.
The other option would be to sell it myself and try to get $17,000 like you said, then look quick for a truck. Probably a better idea - if I can sell the Jeep fast. Spring is here, and landscape contracts go quick.
I would say if you can swing it sell the jeep yourself and go get a f-250 diesel. Look for a 7.3l that will be the last truck you will ever need to buy and will haul anything and everything you can think off. Then well work on putting a new jeep in her garage on jack stands so it can't move lol.
I had the same dilemma a few years back. I sold my 97 Wrangler and bought a 98 Ford truck for my landscaping business. I actually cried like a baby I missed my Jeep so much when I traded it for that truck. It was a matter of months and I traded the truck in on a 99 Wrangler. Lost my @$$ money wise, but it was worth it. I found a way to make it work w/ my trailer.
