what does this mean ?

on my way to the bank today, this happens:

check engine light and airbag light come on
speedometer and tachometer drop to zero

the time from when this happened and the time it took to get to that bank was 2 minutes tops.

im in the bank for maybe 10 minutes, fire the jeep back up, and all is normal.

any ideas ?

Likely nothing more than one or both of the two multi-pin connectors behind the instrument cluster needs to be reseated. While it's apart, take a small set of needle nose pliers and VERY slightly pinch each of the male connector pins so they fit into the female half of the connector more firmly and securely.

the 99 does it on occasion but when it does I just give the dash a little whack and all is well. I really should do the fix Jerry mentioned but too many projects going on, Oh well maybe later.

well, it happened again, but this time it threw a code on the odometer, it read "no bus"

i tapped on the glass and it went away, and all the gauges worked again.

any ideas ?

It's very easy to do. You can have it out in 15-20 minutes.

The cluster gets the information from the "data bus". That's how the PCM transmits all the guage information to the cluster. No Bus = Information for the cluster to display.
