What gears should I go with...

I have a 97 tj with an automatic transmission with the 4.0, currently has stock gears. I'm going up to 35s when I am finished with my 8.8 swap that is currently being worked on now. I'm not sure what gears to go with I've heard 4.10s or 4.56 but I am clueless which will be best. please help...

(new to forums first thread don't make fun of me.)

I think 4.10s would work nicely, maybe 4.83s if you want to get the most out of it

I would suggest trying 4.10s before looking at a swap. I have 4.56s with a manual and don't mind them.

well I have 3.07s right now I believe and the 8.8 has 4.10 and I already have the 8.8 that I got for free from a donor vehicle so I wouldn't want to get my front to 4.10 then want to change it quickly because when I do the swap over I'm going to be doing my lockers also so i don't have to open it back up again

I put 4.56 in my 97 based on input here on the Forum. I have the 4.0 with automatic on 33's. With the 33's it is perfect. Plenty of jump off the line and still cruises at highway speed no problem. Since you are going 35's I would not go any smaller than 4.56.

Your '97 TJ has the 3-speed automatic without an Overdrive, you want 4.56 for 35" tires with that particular transmission. 4.88 is only appropriate when an Overdrive is present.
