I pretty much hate them. The convenience of the disc system is worth the bucks to me.
I agree. I race downhill moutnain biking, and I hardly use my rear brake at all.

My Jeep's rear drums (original from 2004) were hardly working at all, and for me the upgrade was worth it, because I absolutely despise working with drums.

That being said, I can tell a huge difference in braking. Probably because the drums weren't working anyway, but now my car doesn't dip nearly as much while braking on road, and my e-brake works fantastically (but that took some tuning).

Also, for $455, that Black Magic kit looks pretty sweet. I don't think there was anything that cheep for the D35, but I got the Terra kit for $700 with ebrake cables from Rock Ridge, so it could have been worse.

I would like to install the Big Brake kit for my front end sometime though, I just can't justify that $1500 price tag quite yet.

And I thought the job was going to be pretty straight forward, because I got cocky after dropping my tranny to replace my clutch last week. Looking back on it, replacing the brakes wasn't that terrible, but it was a lot less wrench turning and more "thinking" than the clutch job was.

Good luck with your endeavours!

The funny thing is that you know how aftermarket sellers frequently will include a logo sticker for your jeep or your toolbox? They sent one, too, like they knew I would be using it on a vehicle. And I think that sticker is hilarious, so it will join my long list of Jeep parts makers: Currie, Metalcloak, Teraflex, Ox, Brown Dog, etc. aaaaaand... CLOG HOG...

BAHAHAHA!!!
Be careful, I might just take you up on that offer.. I take all those stickers, beer stickers(real beer not Coors or Miller lite), etc and put them on the garage fridge..

Was this past weekend, but oil change, transfer case fluid change, and found out my speedometer gear setup on it was leaking on the transfer case. Ordered the o-ring this weekend from Quadratec, and got it in today. Will probably change it this afternoon.

Packaging overkill though.

Here is a pic from the other day's work. Took this tonight. It set up well and my coverage was pretty much this good except in three or four small spots. I found them with the endoscope and had the wife make chalk marks on the frame where the stuff needs to go. I will give this a week or so to cure and will then do the touchups along with the body mount channels. It was too cold to paint today, and we are supposed to be getting snow tomorrow. The whole next week will be too cold, in fact. So whatever. I will get to it when I can. Until then I know my first run pretty much did all I needed, and only a little bit of touchup work will make it perfect. Very pleased with this Eastwood stuff, man. Very pleased...

This afternoon I went ahead and pulled the trigger on one of Blaine's D44 rear disc brake conversion kits. Got a military veteran discount. SWEET!

Blew the remainder of my Christmas gig money on tools, mostly better wrenches and sockets, but some other goodies, too.

Pax vobiscum, y'all!

Did two things:

1. Ran over a screw in my garage, then found my tire flat later.

2. Cheesy tire repair with a dog turd.

That's all.

Found some old parachord from my deployment. Decided to look up on Youtube how to make some zipper pulls for my soft top. If I think they are to long I will just buy some heat shrink tube, cut the loop, and make it the length I want it.

Never seen those, actually. I see where the name comes from, though. If the dog is really skinny.

HAHAHA!!!

EDIT: Okay, so we only use the smooth, black push-through plugs around here. They do not have that distinctive "Slim Jim" look like what you posted. And no one ever calls them dog turds. I see that is a common term in track motorcycle circles, as well as in Australia and the UK where they are still legal for a shop to install. They are illegal where I live, so you almost never see them unless installed by the owner on the trail. They are sort of dangerous. Lots of multi-million dollar lawsuits over them being installed by tire shops and then the owner being killed in an accident when the plug blew out on the Interstate. I tried to get a plug installed on my BFGs a few years back and the tire guy laughed at me. He said you can only get patches today due to lawsuits.

I wonder why you do not see these "dog turd" versions of the vulcanized string plugs down here?

Weird.

Thanks. I learned something new today.

Finally sold Rubicon 44 rear for $1800. Been lying around for months. Had to buy it in order to get a front, as dude wouldn't split the pair. Ended up paying $1500 for front net.

Wasn't my first choice, but I'm hardly ever on the freeway. I'm about 5-10% away from needing new tires anyway.

I had them in my "trail kit" as a just-in-case sort of thing.

Today I installed a new power steering pump, flushed the system, new idler pulley and new serpentine belt. Lets hope that annoying noise is gone now.

I have to ask, whats the advantages to that type of air intake, and how does it affect mileage and power?

Motosport.com that i use for motorcycles, always overpackages. From them, that o-ring would have come in an 8x8x4" box. Guaranteed.

Could you describe this noise? I have a screech if the temp is near or below freezing. My dad said I might have some water in my power steering pump.

How old is your accessory belt? When they are older and the temp drops, they can slip (screech).

Parts for my BMB rear disc conversion kit are trickling in. The USPS in Mississippi likes to send my mail to my home on some days and to a town about 50 miles away on others. So far I have three boxes that have arrived on two different days. One was busted open and I am missing parts, so I am hoping there is a 4th box out there somewhere. I emailed Blaine to see whether I can quietly await the last box or need to call the local station's Postmaster.

All the part so far look to be very nice, though. Should be a worthwhile conversion. I know our TJ proportioning valve precludes a performance boost, but 1.) I will never have to mess with drum brakes on the TJ again, and 2.) I got Blaine's pads, rotors and calipers up front now, too, so with that improvement and the fact that my rears have never really functioned properly and I should see some improvement.

Further, I will be replacing my brakes lines and the master cylinder this coming spring, so one day soon I will have completely new brakes (save for the booster). For a 14 year old vehicle this will be a welcome improvement...
