Traded a guy my afe intake for a VDP soundbar for a 97-02. I thought it would be a potential hassle installing since I have an '04 but because I had the sound pods, there were 12v outs to each of the lights and the 97-02 had only one input for the lights, I was able to run the second 12v out to some LED strips I attached on the back of the soundbar....worked out well.

A little bit of black krylon paint and looks brand new.

It's been a long time coming for me. Bought it in 2010 when it was stone stock and had 36k miles on it. It now has about 84k.

I've done a lot to it, but want to do a lot more (obviously). And with gas prices the way they are, I am actually going to save money in the long run on gas alone, since my drive to work is 32 miles each way (but I only do it once or twice a week).

I have issues I need to resolve and am so relieved I don't have to drive it in salt anymore. Thursday I pick up my "new" DD ('06 Ford Focus), and I plan to wash the Jeep, put it in the garage, wax it, change all of the fluids, and get to work on doing the things I couldn't do when I had to rely on it to get me to work.

I think I'm more excited now than I was the day I brought it home.

Yes they are, and I really like them so far. The fit is tight, but not tight enough that the driver's side has a couple of wrinkles every now and then. They are waterproof and well priced, which is why I wanted them. I only have about a month on them, so I'll have to let you know after a few more months. The good thing is that I haven't had to "reposition" or "refit" after I put them on, so I feel good that they will fit for a long time. But only time will tell.

Can't get more pics right now, but I will if I can remember tomorrow.

It's a "monocular night vision" ammo can, and it sits at the perfect height to use as an arm rest. I cut out the bottom just big enough to fit over the e-brake assembly, and cut a slot for the e-brake itself. It's also not too wide, so it fits pretty easily. I almost used the same mounting screws for the OEM console, but I found it just easier to use some self-tapping screws straight to the tub.

Drawbacks: unless you cut a piece of the e-brake mount attached to the e-brake assembly, you can't move the can out of the way of the passenger seat, so you can't open and close it without the lid pushing a little on the passenger seat. I may get another (I found them pretty cheap) and cut the mounts out of the way, and move it a little closer to center. I'm still unsure of the CB placement where it is, I want to move it down where I don't hit my elbow whenever I get in the jeep. I can't do that unless I take the driver seat out to move the CB mount lower. A minor detail, but I'm worried about breaking the mount, the knobs, or my elbow. But, live and learn!

The e-brake slot was tough for me to make look decent, and I have a bit of bondo and auto trimming to go before it looks good, but if you notice, the can has a bit of surface rust anyways, so I'll pull it back out one weekend, sand, fill a couple of gaps with bondo, and repaint.

But, I really, really, really like the look.

I personally wouldn't change the can ie paint or work it as I feel that adds to the cool factor of it. If you have a real interest in preserving it as is I'd recommend clear coating it.

I'm going back and forth trying to decide, and it's already in so there's no hurry to figure it out. The problem is that the e-brake cutout needs some bondo to fill a couple of gaps, and if I do that, I'll definitely paint it. I'll use as close to the original flat OD green as possible. But, I still haven't decided. Like I said, I really like the look.

Next step is to start painting the body, but that's a bigger project for later. I'm probably going to do raptor liner in OD green if my wife will let me turn my garage into a makeshift paint booth

Oh, and a friend of mine is making a cushion for the can to use as an arm rest. She's a really good seamstress, and I gave her my old seabag to use as the material. I'm really excited to see how that turns out.

Not today but over the past week and half my brother and I have been making my roof rack. It still needs some strengthen and painting but other than that it turned out pretty good.

More pictures in next post.

I just got it unboxed. It seems to be a nice unit. I am like most people said in their reviews, dissapointed in the fact they use thier own ends on the lines. That and the way they instruct you to use the compressor have me concerned about the way I planned to hard mount/hard wire it. Granted I did not pay much for it, but Id like it to last a long time.

What do you mean their own end? As in the chuck? Do they suggest not hardwiring it through a switch?

Smittybilt 2781 - Smittybilt Heavy Duty Air Compressor - Quadratec

The "quick connects" are their own and normal one dont fit in. So with out modding it you could not lets say...hook up your air tools to it, or use your own tire inflation kit etc.

While they do not come right out and say not to hard wire it they stress how important it is for it to be hooked directly up to the battery with out interuptions(Im sure I will be ok, Im experienced and will use the propper relays etc).

What concerns me the most is their tire inflator screws on to the valve stem and always flows air out once the pump is turned on. Id like to modify mine(wont be hard at all) to except the standard quick connects so I could use my tire inflator I use on my compressor at home(trigger type, squeese for air flow) but they word things makes me think its bad for the compressor. Will it be bad for it if this compressor is running and the air isnt getting out of the line?

If you go to the Qtec link you can DL their instructions which is very very close to the one that comes in the box.

Doesn't seem to hard to modify, I would like to have a normal chuck on the end though.
