You want to clean it very well with soap to get all of the dirt out and you want to scratch up any surface you're going to paint to create a better bond. As far as purchasing/brand, I like Duplicolor bed armor you can buy these cans at any auto store. the caps of the can give you a look and feel of what it will be when it dries. Personally, I like to spray a small paint roller and roll 3-4 coats on to get a real even finish but if you can spray very well then go for it.

Also I haven't bed lined my fenders I did certain parts on my paint (grill, tailgate, etc). I just use Forever black on my fenders (also at auto stores) which looks shiny all of the time. With bed liner, it can get a little dirty if you mud but overall still black (also much more work).

Yeah what he said^^^^. Except after I scuff them up I use acetone to wipe them down once more. And yes I buy the rustoleum bed liner cans from Lowes

I broke one recently while changing shocks. They are just nuts welded in to tabs off the frame, and with their placement it is difficult to get penetrating oil onto them. Chiseled it off, put a bolt through from the top, and put a nut on it. One of these days when I do a tub-off rework (no time soon) I will weld new brackets with bolts on them that point down, or some other mounting method. Common story for these vehicles.

Not hard at all just a PITA. It took me two hours to get the passenger side off but when i got to the driver side I remembered what had to be done and got it off in 30mins. taking off the stock fenders is the hardest part the install was super easy.

Got the hub taken apart on my drivers front wheel and almost taken apart on my passenger front wheel. Hopefully tomorrow ill get a lot more accomplished.

Re: What I did to my TJ today

Ordered replacement upstream O2 sensors. Should be in Saturday. I'm going to be busy this weekend installing new bumper , winch, O2 sensors, and painting hood and fender flares, and time permitting roll bar.

Got my fuel tank skid installed but ended up having to replace the fuel pump assembly because the high pressure connection snapped off. Such a bummer! Then I added a third brake light to my spare tire center cap but have to play around with the wiring to get it working tomorrow.

just got my first,97 sahara. have been going over it.complete tune,oil and filters.filled the diffs.found suspension bolts loose.front end shop says front track bar needs replaced.has 4 inch suspension lift and 33 x 12.5 tires.can't wait for the part to come in..........

I didn't mess with scuffing mine at all. Granted I just did them a couple of weeks ago...

I used the Rust-Oleum rattlecan from Walmart (about $7). Didn't even take them off, just taped and masked really well. I figure if I have any issues, another can is only $7.

yeah i decided that considering it was 3 out of 4 i just took the old hole saw cut a hole in the tub, ground and snapped the welded nut tabs off. replaced with nuts and washers. all seems fine and i can check the torque rather easily until i close the holes. in hind sight I should have looked at other options but it was Sunday and i had to have her back on the road to get to work on Monday. 22 hours by myself to lift, not bad considering all the rusted bolts I had to fight due to Ohio salt usage

So how big are the holes? You might be able to clean them up and paint the edges, then use rubber hole plugs? Just a thought.

Mines been in my ag shop since Tuesday. I've been working on replacing the front end u joints. I finally got both axels out and cleaned today. I am so proud of myself and my arms are so sore from trying to get bolts off. I am so glad I decided to take ag as a freshman and got to know my great teacher who helped me!

How do you plan on painting the roll bar? Needed to do this but don't want to mess anything up

Cut out the crappy torx bolt for the front track bar with a cut off wheel, now I can continue installing the Zone 3" lift. I hate torx bolts and screws... a lot. MML and BL already completed.
