Replaced the fog light / lights / turn signal multi-function switch, $80 from Rock Auto, took under an hour. Fog lights now stay off (good thing). Thanks to all for the advice and the link to Rock Auto, best price that I could find.

Looks great! I used Rustoleum bed-spray just for me grill and fenders. What brand did you use for the interior?

Today I replaced the torn-in-half shift boot and missing plastic locking frame with new ones.

I installed the correct speedo pinion gear.

I bought a temporary tire iron since the stock one has no hope of ever reaching my lugs with the current backspacing.

I replaced all six missing rubber floor plugs in the tub.

I replaced the leaky gas cap with a stock one.

I replaced one vacuum hose on the block.

I aired down from the rock hard 33 psi the tire guys put in to a more comfy 28.

Then I took a 16 pound sledge to my bent swing-away tire carrier. Only got that bit partly sorted... X-(

Tomorrow I will detail away all the accumulated dirt and wash my roll cage covers.

I will also look at removing more of the sketchy wiring done by the PO...

Started building a center console. I got a lot done this evening, but still have a lot to do. I need to pick up some 3/8" dowel rod to fill in the screw holes, pick up a hinge, then lots of sanding and then paint it. Or bedline it. I haven't decided yet. I also haven't decided if I want to upholster the lid. I'm not very good at it and I'm afraid it'll make it look terrible. I'll post some more pics when I get it finished.

finally brought the old ax-15 to an actual transmission shop. after getting jerked around for 4 weeks by the guy who was supposed to be rebuilding it, i guess ill pay someone to fix it at this point. the guy at the tranny shop did not seem very excited at all to be receiving a COMPLETELY dissassembled transmission. at least it was all in baggies and labeled. but i have a bad feeling that this is gonna cost me way more than im prepared for. -.-

you are probably right.. there is going to be a few "extra" hours in the project to rebuild it at this point. sorry to hear this..

There are commercial battery trays meant for this. With the weight of a battery (now two) sloshing chemicals around, a little safety is a good thing.

Here's one from Quadratec.

Arent these made specifically for an Optima battery? I am staying away from an Optima based on reports on the forum.

They certainly show an Optima battery. I understand your concerns regarding the newer Optima batteries and recently purchased the Die Hard Platinum for our pickup truck, which is an AGM battery. Sears' web site says it offers "mounting flexibility" which (because it is AGM and fully sealed) I take to mean it can be mounted on its side. Tremendous warranty and there is a Sears just about everywhere. I will be getting one for the Jeep as well, when the current battery fails.

My real point was, I'd rather see someone get a quality battery tray and be safe with batteries than fabricate something and have an issue. When I was a Marine one of my many jobs was managing a battery shop that had just about any type of battery you could imagine, except AGM because it did not exist then. Having seen firsthand the damage/injuries that can occur with a battery problem, I just don't want someone to suffer needlessly.

I've seen some pictures of Jeeps with standard batteries mounted side by side on good trays, so I know they are out there.

Stay safe, and have a great Independence Day.

Just watched it sit. The rain is pouring down and dont have a top on it right now. I might still take it out to cure cabin fever. It wont be the first time or the last time that the inside has gotten wet.

So new engine, new transmission, and a bunch of other stuff. You have been very busy.

Ramen is not that bad, although it is bad for you. Too much sodium. I used to eat a lot of it, along with some chicken. Yummy. Especially if it gets you back on the trail.

Keep smiling, you will soon be driving it again.

Took her to the shop last week to have the AC repaired. I don't have time, because I'm moving to Dallas on Friday or Saturday (depends on when the movers finish). I don't need AC here in San Diego, but I sure as shootin will in Dallas!!! It's KILLING ME to let someone else wrench on my baby, but at this point I know it's for the best.

Miss you girl!!!

You picked a good year to move. It's crazy cool here, RELATIVE to the last couple of years...Hell, 2 years ago, at this time, we were already on our 20th straight day of 100+ temperature. Today, it BARELY hit 90. It's AWESOME Jeep weather here and I don't have a compressor at all!! (That being said, my Jeep's not my commuter car, but still, I driver her topless all weekend...)

Oh man...wish I'd known...I'd have told you about my custom boots. Black marine-grade vinyl with colored accent thread to match your interior! Way better than the old accordion style...When you're tired of your new one, gimme a shout!

Ahhhhhhh, yes.... The life of a college man.. Didn't have ramen back in the day.. Had boil in bag frozen stuff.. Of course we didn't have Jeeps either, we had to walk 5 miles thru the snow, uphill both ways to class . I am sure you will see your way thru this.. Go sell some blood, or other bodily fluid . Be a test subject in a clinical research project. I know you are of the industrial type.
