Back in the bad old days, they would rod out a radiator taking it apart to do the job. These days, it's probably safer and cheaper in the long run to replace it.

Serious question, do these straps on the soft top do anything? This is also my first OEM soft top, been running rampages crap for the last 3 years. Click image for larger version

Can't quite tell, are they on the top frame at the rear window by chance? And do the have snaps? Might be to roll up the rear window.

Yes they hold tension between the center bow and back bow to hold the back of the top up

I'm glad I don't have to follow that, I'm sure he knows exactly what he is talking about, but not me.

Oh baby. Got home at 11 after a long day. Found my package on the front porch, went straight to the garage to instal my new clear turn signals and shifter knob. Then was so excited I had to post pics for you guys!

I like the shifter knob! Aluminum? Where did you get it at? Does it use the existing threads? Or is a hex bolt and bushing? Very cool!

Goes right in the existing threads. There is a little lock nut that went in first, then the knob threaded right on. Only bad thing is, is someone knew how it comes off, could steal it in 20 seconds.

After trying 3 different radiator cleaners I gave up on the Dex-Sludge caused by the PO. Placed an order for a Mishimoto all Aluminum Rad, both heater hoses, both rad hoses and thermostat housing. I've already got the new thermostat and gasket waiting. I'm still thinking about installing a coolant filter just as a fail safe.

Well, it came today in the big brown truck while I was at work today!!! A big thank you to Capt. Jeremy Deloach. He was planning on doing his Wrangler, but duty called and he is off to Korea and will be unable to hook his rig up. His misfortune is my blessing and he hooked me up and shipped this to me for a great deal!!!

Oh, and if you are reading this Jeremy, Congrats on the new command!!!

Im betting a coolant filter wont hurt when you install the new items. Im sure some of that sludge is in the motor to. You could probably filter out the small amounts that are bound to be clinging to the motors ports.

Agreed. I've been doing some research on them and it seems that a lot of people think they are a joke like headlight fluid just because they don't come on vehicles. I've found two types - one that goes inline on the heater core lines and is clear glass with a conical filter. The other type goes in the upper rad hose and has a curved mesh filter and a magnet. Sadly the upper hose model is about $70

Coolant filter sounds like something that could "clog" and stop or restrict flow.

Hmmmmmmm..... that sure makes sense, and knowing my luck it would clog while I was out on the trails working my old TJ hard, and suddenly that old temp gauge would start to rise, and boy would I be cussing!!!

Won't be driving it for a couple days so took the time to wash the air filter. Should be dry by the time I get to drive it again.

I put mine in the clothes dryer. I put the shoe rack in set the filter on the rack and set to med heat. Works great, dry in 60min.

If I were installing all new hoses and radiator because of a sludge problem I think I might want to run a coolant filter for a short term period after the install. Say about 2 weeks, just to see what all it catches. Once I was positive it was clean I would remove it. Its not an item id want on my system 100% of the time just because it would be a possible clog point.
Just a thought anyways.

Agreed, I'm planning to run the five mesh abd check every 10 mins to start - they can fill that quick. Once it stops filling I'll switch to the larger mesh and magnet and check daily. With the trails... Sadly i may have to be done for a while :-(
