You see guys this is why they make these awesome stickers for us Jeepers, " Its a Jeep. If i wanted a hummer id call your sister." One of these stickers will be on my jeep soon enough. I saw one of these monstrosities once in a Walmart parking lot... I swear a tear rolled down my face.
I've seen one of these in person and surprisingly the owner was using the rear fender as a step to get to the roof rack. You could jump on it and nothing would break.
My wife is visiting her home with our kids in Kyoto Japan, she visited a friend and he complained he had no one to go off road with, there is a location but guys like him and us are few and far between over there I guess. She sent me a picture of his rig, its Mitsubishi, has a Jeep emblem on front, some kind of knock off?? Any info out there on this one? I don't want to tell him I think its ugly as hell, not a big chrome fan, maybe I can make him see the light.
IDK, they made me think Land Rover Defender long before I thought Hummer, and I've always liked the look of the Defender. A lot of the photos (and bumpers like in the second photo) do a good job at disguising just how ugly they make the front end of the vehicle - which, I think, is the only really offensive part of the kit (also the key one, I know) so I didn't really get the full scope until I saw one straight-on from the front. They do look far more like Hummers from that angle, but otherwise I still think "Defender" first.
I've read a few times that their roof racks are actually rather great though.
Hummer body kits were the rage in the 90's. I remember this was the kit for K5 blazers. I still remember the ads for 8" and 10" skyjacker lifts kits for TJ's! Pretty ugly...ah the good old days.
The Mitsubishi is a J54, which Willys had licensed them to build. It was based on a CJ-3B. That one is a bit gawdy, but I'd love to have one! (except for the right-hand drive)
My wife must love me?? Talking on skype its 9pm here and 10am next morning there and I start talking Jeeps. He is 1of2 people who own a Jeep in Kyoto, a city of 1.5million(must be easy getting everyone together for meetings), you are correct "Incogneto" licensed by Jeep for manufacturing rights, all used for military purposes, as his was an ex military Jeep. Its a strange world when my wife looks up an old friend and finds him to be a Jeep lover who is one of a select few in his part of the world. I know who I will be visiting next time I visit, maybe I can help him with some parts someday??
I think Mitsubishi and Chrysler are affiliated and have been for years. Since Chrysler now owns Jeep, the connection isn't all that hard to imagine. Its probably targeted to the Japanese & overseas markets.
Mitsubishi has been building jeeps for decades, long before the Chrysler connection.
As for the Land Runner, I don't like it, but I've often wondered why there weren't more body mods for Wranglers. Personally, I'd like the wrangler's sides to be higher and the front end to be like a Jeepster Commando.
When I got my 01 Wrangler back in 2000, the dealership had 2 or 3 of those Landrunner monstrocities sitting on the lot. Hated them then, still hate them now...
Those jeepneys are so cool I would make it my DD for atleast a month and I would fasten a chain mail like coat of smashed beer cans to it for armor/bling. I would also let my children and animals ride on top since that seems to be ok in a jeepney.
There are car manufacturers in Japan that make knock off vehicles that look identical to many popular cars today. At least I think it's Japan. All badged as a different vehicle but exact replica with cheap knock off parts. Saw it on a Top Gear episode. They do exist.that look quite similar to the YJ renegade package.
