what is a 44 & 30 worth?

Ok - it happened, I worked on the Jeep all of last weekend and started to think about upgrading the axels. Just thinking of the process and what move I would make, the question comes up

What is a stock Dana 44 and 30 geared in 3.73 from a 2001 - well cared for with fluid changes, most of the factory finish still present - seldom driven in snow, and 175k miles bring as a set?

certainly many ways to go about upgrading but the question is just a starting point for the thought process, what say you?

Are you buying or selling the Dana 44 as an upgrade? I've seen a couple on Craigslist (Dayton, Ohio) for $500-$800 that seem to sell immediately. Walt's Auto in Springfield (Ohio) has one listed but says call for price and I haven't made the call.

I keep looking at the G2 replacement. A brand new axle geared the way I want it (4.88) with a locker runs around $2,500. If I buy a used D44 for say $750, install a locker for $850, and have it regeared for $800ish, it seems like it makes sense to go ahead and buy the new one.

I currently own the Dana 44 & 30 they came on my jeep when I purchased it in 2001. I am thinking if I went with new axels I would try to sell them as a set or I would get stuck with the dana 30 -

Just thinking over the process and possibilities

Yeah, sorry I didn't really address the Dana 30. I've seen them listed for a couple hundred or less. Seems like there are quite a few of them for sale at any given time. I agree selling as a set probably make sense to make sure they both move at the same time.

What are you hoping to move up to?

not sure- just thinking, maybe I would just upgrade the 30 to a 44 and rebuild the current dana 44 rear.

As mentioned above, the D44 is probably worth $500-$800, but I just finally sold a D30 for $125 after months of having it on CL.
