What is my jeep worth?

I've gotta put the jeep up for sale even though i would love to keep it, i need the money right now. I'm somewhat new to jeeps so im wondering what its worth and how much to ask for it; i know you cant always go by blue book value...

It's a 98 Wrangler Sport, 4.0 liter with auto trans. 120,000 miles. Black with a tan hardtop. Mechanically - it is in perfect condition; Cosmetically - It is near perfect aside from a few small scratches. I just got finished completely servicing the vehicle; it has new brakes front and rear, new goodyear wrangler tires, new windshield wiper motor, fresh oil change, new air filter. The interior is absolutely perfect condition with new rubber floormats and steering wheel cover. Since these pictures I have painted the entire frame and rear drums flat black (was bored and wanted a cleaner look), and replaced the missing center caps.

The book value is $6,680. This jeep is in excellent condition and is going to make a great vehicle for someone. If anyone has an opinion on a good asking price i would really appreciate it. Thanks everyone

Depending on how the engine sounded and what the underside looks like, that would sell for $7,000 easy, maybe $7500 in my neck of the woods. With things like Jeeps, you can go a little over kbb and probably get what you're asking (or at least close to it).

Engine runs and sounds smooth as can be... underside is great. My friend that i bought it from isnt really a "car guy" and he only used it to get him from point-A to point-B, so it literally has never been off-road. Getting 7 for it would be great that's nice to hear!

Well, up in northern Michigan a Wrangler or Cherokee that hasn't been 1) "unprofessionally" lifted, 2) beat to absolute crap, 3) covered in rust bubbles and flakes (if there even ARE floor pans to speak of), 4) knocking like a diesel, or 5) death-wobbling for so long the front tires are unevenly worn, is super rare. I paid bb private party for mine and consider it a steal because it's in such good condition, and that's counting the multiple scratches, the dented hood, the small crack in the windshield, and the multiple instances of light surface rust on the frame (and two minor spots on the body).

If you're in a climate where they salt the roads in the winter, my jeep is "pristine." That being said, a good-condition Jeep may not be all that rare where you live. Don't settle for much less that bluebook though, whatever you do - Jeeps have their own following and "special purpose" rarity all on their own, no matter where you live. Someone will pay, guaranteed.

What I do is ask for $500 more than the price you want to get for it. Ask for $7500 obo and take no less than $7000.

Oh my god, I think you're right. Maybe you can find one of those CD-player tape adapters for an iPod...

Now that I think about it, that is a stock deck. RARE for a Jeep, especially if said Jeep has a soft top.

You think so? I can't move mine and I'm asking $1500 under KBB.

depends on your area. But normally Jeeps hold their value like a bucket holds water.

They usually do...but I've noticed that seems to be less true recently. I think there have been a lot of people selling their "third vehicle" Jeeps, and driving prices down...

It's worth about $5 bucks... I'd like to enter the first bid at $2.00

Seriously though, it really does depend on your area. Here in Georgia I'd usually end up paying about $6500.00 for a Jeep like yours.

People are generally going to look up book values as a starting point. So that should be your starting point as well. You can ask whatever you want, they will either pay it or not. rule of thumb, always ask more for it cause someone is going to haggle no matter if you ask under what it's worth. you can always drop the price in increments if it sits for a while.

Look up book values of different books, not just one. There is a difference in price. Also, check out what simular Jeeps in your area are going for. you kinda want to stay in that area. It may help you also when the haggling begins.

I learned a long time ago that something is worth only what someone will pay for it.
