What is this?

I was washing my engine today and noticed this. What is it? Is it disconnected?

I bet there is a bolt on the underside of your hood damn near in the center towards the bottom. Or a place where a bolt would go.

Yep. It's the ground strap that goes between the firewall and the hood. Probably why that hood light isn't working.

Lol I didn't even know my Jeep had a hood light lol. Do I run any risk leaving it off until my friend/mechanic hooks it back up?

You're not risking anything by driving it that way.

After reading TJSpeed's post, I had to go look at mine. I stand corrected... the hood light is indeed grounded at the firewall, not through the hood.

You did not happen to notice that big rectangular light in the center of the hood. It's right in the picture.

Just a suggestion, but seems you may want to google "jeeps" and learn done of the basics. Definitely here to help, but sometimes done self study will teach you a lot.

You need a mechanic to hook up a ground?

Dunno what any of you are talking about. That's the synchronization wire for the odometer. It hookers up to a bolt in front of the triple A overhead manifold sprocket on the driver side. It isn't a snug fit to allow the sprocket to continue to turn when your driving.
