What is your average MPG?

Hi,

I have a 2000 Sahara, 5 speed, I6. Getting about 11-12 MPG. I know it's shaped like a brick, so I understand aerodynamics are not in my favor. But is this normal? Is there anything I can do to increase it? Please no smart ass comments. Just looking for advice. I'd like to reach "advertised" MPG of 15-19. Also what is your average. Thanks.

Put the 29's on with 3.07 gears, stay out of the gas and go down hill a lot. That should get you the advertised MPG's

Also the myth of lower rpm=higher mpg is just that a MYTH

I found out I get the best mileage when I'm in the power band.
45mph @ 1600rpm = 15mpg
45mph @ 2300rpm = 16-17mpg

'02 Sahara 4.0L 5-speed 3.73 axle ratio Dana 44 with stock 30x9.5 tires on stock Canyon wheels: avg all-stop and go: 16.7, avg all-highway: 19.5 and I too ignore the shift-advisor light on the instrument panel, shift in the 2,000-2,400 rpm range.

'04 Sport 5spd stock tires and wheels (3.73s) I got a consistent 20-22 highway at 55mph, and 17-20mpg in town.

Now has OME lift suspension lift, and a 1.5 BL, 33"x12.50" Duratracs on soft 8s mileage is about 14-15mpg so far have not done any road trips to speak of since changes, barely been 2 weeks but mileage is down.

You want the stock advertised mileage put it back to original....not being smartass just how it is.

No kidding...

That might explain my woes. I've been struggling with increasingly low MPG since I installed a cold air intake and it's only been getting worse no matter what I've tried. I keep meticulous gas logs and it clearly started after I bolted on the piece of crap.

I have the feeling that the Jeep's been running rich, so I reset the ECU today just to see if it improves and then ramps back down. I've looked like heck for a header crack but no dice.

But I've also been making an effort to cruise in 4th through Japan traffic instead of running more comfortably in 3rd, and that might be it. Hell, I'm trying anything to see it get better for one tank (removed spare tire and ammo can with tools, et cetera). I never felt like the throttle was wide open and there's so much power at low RPM but maybe it does make a bigger difference than I thought...

Wow, I've got my own issues but I'm lucky to get 14mpg on 31's with 3.73s (2004 sport 4.0). I'm jealous.

Anyone notice that according to specs, the TJ should have a 15gallon tank, yet (for mine anyway) the gas pump shuts off when around 16gallons? So which one do you use for the math for your MPGs?

I used to get 20 mpg back when I had 30” tires, driving like grandma, shifting right at 2000 rpm's and max speed of 55. Did it on two full tanks, I was testing it. Then got tired of driving like grandma, so 14 mpg are back. Lol

I fill up, reset odometer, and next time I fill up, divide the miles I drove by the amount of gallons it take to get it full again. No matter how many gallons is your tank. :-)

I average between 15 - 18 mpg, I sit in the right hand lane at 2K rpm's and let everyone pass me on the highway. I have a 05 LJ with an I-6 and an automatic and 3.75 gears.

I get anywhere between 16-19. Depends if I'm hauling a trailer (I've done that a lot here lately, seems like when you have a trailer everyone needs help), how hard the wind blows or how heavy my foot is
But my running average on Fuelly with 69 fill-ups is 17.6 mpg

1999 2.5I4 5 speed
