I just replaced all the factory stuff in the Rubicon I picked up. Put a Clarion CZ401 head unit in. It's nice because it's got an aux in on the front for an Ipod or input from an XM portable unit. Also has USB in the front so I can load up a thumb drive with music.

Speakers, I went with Kicker 6.5's in the sound bar, Pioneer 5 1/4's in the dash and a Kicker sub in the console.

Sounds very good compared to the blown out factory speakers and I love the head unit! I'm partial the Clarions, I've used them in everything I've owned since I was in high school in the early 90's.

I know...I'm old.

My suggestion is Polk DB525 for the front with an adapter, speaker baffle and harness adapter for the wires. As for rear,Polk DB 6501 for sound bar.
Both are Marine Grade and can be rained on so they are perfect when you take your top off the jeep.

Good Discussion on installs:Amp Placement
Thanks for the info....I know what my next project is!!!

I want to know what you have to do to put 5.25 in the dash? I have a 2000 Sport and had to buy a plate from Crutchfield to put my 4x6 kickers in.
Thanks

Just buy the below speaker adapters and remove the ones you have and screw them right in. You can also get adapters for the harness or just clip the wires and put new connectors on. It would be good to get a baffle for the front speakers. You will really hear the difference and they are cheap.

5.25 Speaker Adapter:
Amazon.com: Speaker Bracket Pair for Jeep TJ / Wrangler 1997-UP MTX JTJ514B: Car Electronics

5.25 Speaker Baffle:
Amazon.com: DEI 050320 Boom Mat 5.25" Round Speaker Baffle - Pack of 2: Automotive

The baffles are used to keep to direct the sound on the speaker. You install them into the adapter in my other email and then put your speaker on top of the baffle and sandwich the baffle between the adapter and speaker. It will create a mini type of enclosure for the speaker. It increases the sound of the front speaker. It is like 7 bucks and makes a world of difference.

What do y'all have in your TJ's?
If you put in Polk DB 521's in front and Polk DB 651's in rear (Fit in stock sound bar), MTX 5.25" speaker adapter, DEI Boom Mat Speaker baffles for 5.25 and 6.5 and speaker connection adapters, it is like $155 on Amazon.

So this is what I settled on...
the Orion separates in the pods

Orion 2 way in the dash

I plan to build the box into the back seat and use a 10", 2ohm, Pioneer flat sub

Amps are these.
Soundstorm 400wattx4 for the Orions

Pioneer 800 watt mono for the sub

and this head unit

Everything has been ordered and everything has arrived but the head unit. They say it will ship Wednesday.

They are 5.25", bolted right in.
http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAu...ion_XTR52.aspx
All I had to do was drill a 2" hole for the tweeters. The crossovers are stuck inside the pod with that gray double stick tape. There's a square of Dynamat in the pods above the speaker and some poly-fill around them.
At the moment they are plugged to the factory radio but they still sound pretty good. They should sound great once I get the amp in.

The front ones haven't been put in the Jeep yet. They are mounted and ready to be put in, but they are still in my living room at the moment.

Memphis PR 4" in the dash with adapters, and Memphis SR 6 1/2" in the bar. Sounds pretty good. I'm kicking a 10 year old Pioneer DEH model CD player...really need to upgrade the head unit.

I think that is the amp I put in my RV. Sounds awesome and its really small for the power. I'd do a digital amp in the jeep if I had to do it again. It was a lot of work to put it under the seat.

i'm thinking of getting the Polk DB521 5.25" for the dash and DB6501 6.5 for my sound bar. Anything else I should keep in mind as far's parts that I would need? I know i'll need a hard plate and baffles for the dash. I'm buying mine from Amazon so i'm not sure if it'll come with all the wires for install? Thanks!

I was thinking of putting the amps in the center console. Anyone know how wide the space in there is once you pull the factory sub out? I think I can fit both amps if it is at least 4" wide.

Your going to have to consider cooling if you put them in the center console. Your also going to have to pull the plastic liner out to create more space.

Plastic liner? are you talking about the plastic box that the factory sub is in? I was going to yank that whole thing out. Once it's out there will be a 6" grill/air vent left in the driver side of the console......... I could mount a cooling fan there.

What issues would I have if I were to put an amp inside the ammo center console and for it being a metal. Space-wise I think i'm golden but I wonder what issues I will have with the heat?

Yea, just problems with heat. I like the idea, safe, water resistant, hidden, but there would likely be a bit of heat. Im not sure if it would be a problem though, because you have that big opening for the ebrake. It seems like as long as that big slit stays open, it should be enough to cool it. My amp is in a sealed tuffy box in the back of my jeep. No airflow and its 600 watts. Went on a 3hr car ride in 65-70 degree weather and when I opened the box after it was maybe 86-90 degrees. Not that bad for a sealed box. So, I would say you are fine DEPENDING on how many watts the amp is and how many speakers you are pushing with it.

Ah I see, put them in place of the sub. I don't have factory sub so I have no idea what it looks like or anything. Depends on how powerful and efficient the amp is. It also depends on the design of the amps heat sinks, but most likely it will be fine since the subwoofer grills will allow for some ventilation.

Also do you have the amps yet? If not I think you're going to be surprised at how big they are and you also have to account space for wires and being able to actually get a screwdriver somewhere to tighten terminals down. I have a Sony xm4s which is a very tiny amp, but there was no way it was fitting in the center console without pulling out the inside plastic.

Yep, got the amps.
This one
Amazon.com: Sound Storm Laboratories EV4.400 400-Watt 4-Channel Power Amplifier with High/Low Crossover: Car Electronics
and this one
Amazon.com: Pioneer GM-D7500M Class-D Mono Amplifier with 800 Watts Max. Power: Electronics

They are pretty small for what they push.

Not a fan of Sony. I bought a Sony stereo for my living room and it was in the shop twice in the first year. The last time they returned it all scratched up and wouldn't do any thing about it. A $400 stereo shouldn't be in the shop like that.
Also, we bought about 2 dozen Sony laptops at work and about 80% of them broke within the first 2 years. I haven't heard any thing bad about their car stuff but they have left a bad taste.
