What light is this

Thankfully this has never been on in any of my trucks or jeep before so I have no clue what it means. Any help would be great!

I just drove to my meeting and that light came on. Now I'm trying to figure out if I can drive it home after or if I should line up a ride. Nothing like stressing over this at work.

turn your key on and off (without starting the jeep) 3 times... then leave it in the on position... write down those codes then post 'em up...

jeep is fine to drive...

make sure you include year and if its AT/ MT

The good news is that a Check Engine light is rarely anything you can't drive with, most of the codes it generates are usually only smog system related. It's the red Check Gauges light that is cause for worry.

Is your gas cap by any chance loose or have you started your engine recently with the cap off? That's one minor cause of a Check Engine light.

That decodes to a large leak in the evaporative system having been discovered. That could be anything from the leaky/missing gas cap like I mentioned above to a cracked rubber fuel hose or plastic fuel line especially around the gas tank or filler neck assembly.

Roger so I guess I should start with looking for anything cracked and replace the gas cap. Then I will go from their. Would you guys say I is ok to drive in the mean time or could driving make something else break?

No problems driving it with that evaporative leak. So you're certain your gas cap was always tight and never off or loose when starting the engine? That's just an easy thing to take care of if that is a possibility.

I'm not certain. Here in nj we have gas station attendant, we don't just pump our own gas. So when I took it off because that was the first thing I checked I believe it was a little loose. I want to replace it anyway as the PO didn't give me the key to the cap.

After changing the cap should I disconnect the battery and see if it stays off or would that be a bad idea if it is something else? I seem to gather its not that big of a deal.

If it was the gas cap causing the leak, the light will go out by itself after a short time when the cap is installed properly.

It's not a big deal and disco'ing the battery for 2 minutes to clear the code to see if it comes back is exactly what I'd do.

that light will go away if you put your seatbelt on, going 50MPH and playing with your phone is just another reason to put it on.

back on topic.

The only time that light came on for me was when I was VERY low on coolant. For some reason my jeep hates the heat and sucks all the coolant out of the reservior in this deep south texas heat
