Ah, yes. I've been there many times myself (though not for a few years now... but I'm about to change that once the canyon opens).

I am not sure what makes it look cool, maybe the fact it wheels so damn good makes it cool to me.

It's quite simple really, figure out what your thread is for your shift knob, on my TJ it was a metric M10 X 1.50, I bought A tap drill and countersink set at Harbor Freight for 10 bucks or so and put the bit on the end of my power drill. Put the golf ball in the middle of a vise in my garage to hold in place and drilled in nice and slow, since it is drilling and threading at the same time you have to make sure to take your time on the way in and the same bringing it out, and done! The bits you are looking for are going to look like this.

Thanks! But I checked Harbor Freight and a lot other sites on the internet and no one seems to have that size. I even checked for just the tap, without the drill bit part.

hmm, my harbor freight just had some in stock when I bought them. I did look on their online site though and couldn't get anything like it to come up. Here is something that will work though...Amazon.com: Westward 6EXL2 Drill/Tap/Countersink Bit Set, Metric, 6Pc: Home Improvement

It's the same type deal I have, just more expensive. However, these do come very very handy at times besides just using it once for a shifter, hope this helps...

No problem, it's a simple project once you get the right tools and it adds a lot of personalization

Game over. Although my Jeep got a cool rating on page 1, (thanks, uf20wop & KATE) I now formally claim double cool.
I thank you.

for anyone doing this, coming from experience, be gentle with drill/tap bits. if the metal is hard enough and youre not going in perfectly straight youll break off the tip. Ive seen it happen and have done it way too many times
